Re: What did you buy today (FJ related items)?

Last year around this time I wanted to upgrade my air compressor. Couldn't decide between an onboard system or a portable unit. Went portable so it could be used in my wife's 4Runner along with my FJ. Soon after spending a small fortune for a Viair 450P, the wife traded in her 4Runner and bought an Outback. Then a couple months after that, I left the compressor neatly packed in it's bag on the side of the road after airing up one afternoon.

I just bought the ARB single air compressor. I'll hard mount it above the wheel well in the rear on the driver side and never worry about airing up again.

Perhaps losing your compressor was penance for trading a 4Runner for a Subaru.

You'll like that ARB though.

I always wondered if covering the shocks will impair heat dissipation especially here in Southern California where its mostly desert.
Usually they trap mud and then rust out the shock body.

Some stuff showed up
Lux led rock lights . Very nice kit .
Blue sea stuff Mounted to my power tray
Remember to update this after you have run the lights for a while. I'd like to install some lights on my crawler, but most of the Amazon stuff is junk. This kit looks promising.

Yeah, on regular shocks, we just throw those boots in the trash. They may look cool to some but they cause more harm than good. Maybe not so much in arid climates.

Added: I just read a post from Deb that she likes the boots to prevent pitting of shaft on shocks, hence run the boots. I don't see that in the Rockies very often but it is usually due to poor chroming of the shock shaft itself. Her issue is probably related to road salt eating away at the chrome on the shaft, resulting in rust and pitting. That's probably the best argument for using shock boots that I've read.

So far I can say they are a great product . The mounting is pretty cool . The lights have magnets on the backs so it makes mounting very easy . They hold very well also . The junction box also has magnets in it , or you can screw it down . I mounted mine on top of my fuse box and actually used heavy duty Velcro . I did not want to drill holes in the lid . I will be putting them through a torture test here shortly so I will let you know how they hold up . Things of note . I kept seeing the ads pop up and was unsure . I ended up
Calling them and come to find out they are based in Oregon . I have a feeling it’s a small company . I will try and stop by one day , but they shipped when they said and called back when I left a message so that is a Plus from me .

Pitting = mostly rocks hitting shaft from gravel roads IMO. Happens here

Mine came with these shock guards on them. I didn't think they'd work well for rocks and stones etc but they seem to be doing their job.
