Repairable? Totaled? - 07 FJ Cruiser

Recently got rear ended in my FJ. Lady hit me into the car in front of me while I was at a complete stop. I'm worried if the damage is repairable or not. What do you guys think? Insurance going to consider a total loss? : ( praying I can keep it and get her fixed.

Well that shot of the frame says to me that it will be totalled. Until that point it all looked fairly superficial but any damage to frame usually means no repair.

Hope it turns out OK for you. Don’t accept any offers without a fight, insurers always try to get away with paying as little as possible.

Anything can be fixed. Frames can be cut bent and reinforced and replaced. The question is can it be repaired for less the the current value of the FJ . Looking at the damage to the frame a body shop would replace it, did the air bags go off ? Labor and parts costs will most likely total it.

^^x2 - very sorry to see the wreck, and the frame bent like that. Iím curious if it was the aftermarket trailer hitch that pushed up into the frame member and bent it. If so, make sure you get the Toyota hitch on your NEW FJ, and good luck!

They're definitely gonna total it out with that frame damage.

Certainly looks that way with where the frame folded. My pops told me to never buy a yellow car because it's a cursed color.

Re: Repairable? Totaled? - 07 FJ Cruiser

and if the insurance company wants to total it, you can still buy the salvage from them and still get it fixed with the money they gave you (plus some more as needed), just make sure you use the best body shop you can find (I once used the "recommended" by the insurance company body shop and they did a sh*t job).

I bought back a cherished car after an accident. They told me it would be labeled as a "salvage" and the title updated accordingly (I had it repaired by a body shop of my choosing). Later, I found out that since I'd bought my own "salvage" back, they never did bother to submit the "salvage" to the state, and the title is still clean. Might have just been a coincidence just this one time, I don't know.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I can't believe how often it is that some idiot hits the rear of a car while it is sitting stopped at a light. It is the one scenario for which there is nothing you can do.

Re: Repairable? Totaled? - 07 FJ Cruiser

What ever they decide, you must agree with also... it's a settlement, not a one sided deal... both 1st party (YOU) and 2nd party (INS) must agree to said settlement...

2.5 years ago, I received $22k for my totaled 2007 (Jan 2006) FJ with over 110k on her, plus I got to keep all my aftermarket parts for my second FJ (i had 2)...

The insurance co. started their negotiating at $13k... I had them send me their cost analysis and found it was way off and did not include my options, did not match my area in replacement cost... It took me 3 days to get them where I was happy and agreed to the settlement...
