FJ Cruiser Fuel Tank Protector/Shield Suggestions?

So I had one of the fuel tank straps break off and basically dropped and shifted the fuel tank onto my drive shaft coming home from work the other day (and yes reading alot of posts regarding this, it snapped where everyone else who had this problem snapped), but, it also cracked the the plastic on the fuel tank protector where it bolts to the front fuel tank straps because of the weight of the full tank. I'm trying to find if there are any aftermarket fuel tank protectors out there that aren't going to cost me over $300 like the OEM protector? I've been searching, but, haven't found anything. Any thoughts?

If you want puncture and abrasion protection but don't need massive impact protection (i.e. you aren't going to be going airborne then landing on the gas tank), then Trail Toys' "UHMW gas tank 'skid plate'" is an ingenious and lightweight $150 option: https://trailtoys.net/products/uhmw-...ate-fj-cruiser

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like they only offer it in blue right now, which would almost look like I cut off a piece of recycling bin to cover the tank...LOL !

Powdercoated in steel for $230 from RCI. I think they also make alum version, but dont see that option currently (I have that on my 2010)

Check with @BEASTWAGEN “All parts of FJ Cruiser for sale” and see if he has an OE protector for sale at a good price

There's also Ricochet aluminum skids which might be a good option since you're in a "rusty" state. Optional color anodizing as well.

The OE cover is plastic, so rust doesnt apply...

True, but if you're replacing it anyway, might as well go for something sturdier that adds even more protection. Only if it makes sense, of course. If you aren't doing much offroading, then yeah I'd go for OEM or UHMW.
