Would you be scared of this?

Hey everyone,
I used to have an FJ and looking to buy another one. I have found one that is really nice EXCEPT the rust underneath. It has spent a few years at the beach. I need some expert opinions on how bad yall think it is. Would you be scared to buy this one?

Re: Would you be scared of this?

I wouldn't be scared...
- Looks like it could easily be brushed off, and re-coated
- In this part of the world, most cars will look like that after 2-3 winters, unless they get early coated.

Doesn't look too bad. Definitely would need some rust protection after a thorough prep. Por 15/Eastwood internal frame spray and some fluid film.

Re: Would you be scared of this?

Is that rust or oil on the side of the fuel tank? That surface rust on the frame looks typical. 4 1/2" grinder with a stainless wire wheel and that could be cleaned up in no time. re-coat with an good paint and drive it.

Re: Would you be scared of this?

I'm that guy that crawls under any FJ that parks on my street. I agree it is fixable with time, money, elbow grease but I have never seen one that had rust like that on the gas tank. It may not be a big deal but I have snooped under a lot of rigs, that's a new spot for me.

Re: Would you be scared of this?

Like @Bad Wolf said, definitely check on that gas tank. The rest isn't too bad, and certainly won't be an issue after you brush it off and treat the areas with POR 15/paint. I would recommend steering clear of using rubberized undercoating though. I hear it can actually trap moisture and accelerate or at least hide future rusting.
