What to watch for?

I have a 2007 with 180k on it. Everything is running good. Only thing I have is the dreaded tranny shimmy. I would like to get another 50-100k out of her but wondering what I should be looking for? Thoughts ideas? I know I need new wheels since they are starting to pit, and I plan on new stereo with Bluetooth, thinking more along the lines of drivetrain.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What to watch for?

I've decided to try changing my driving style to accommodate the shimmy. I keep it in D4 unless or until I get to freeway speeds, then shift. When I brake to around 40 I shift back to 4. Now that I'm in that habit I haven't had a shimmy at all.
I know there are additives but I think I'll wait until a post from one of the few I trust on here to chime in.

Re: What to watch for?

have you drained (and/or) dropped the transmission pan and done a swap with fresh fluid a few times?

My wife's 07 with 155K had a slight transmission shudder when cold and it's gone now that I dropped the pan (I put a new wix filter and gasket while I was there) and changed the fluid. I worked out to 6 quarts. ( I'm going to do it again when I do the next oil change.)

Try this 952-post, 8-year-running thread: https://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...-problems.html
(Although there are great and salient points and posts by others, pay special attention to what @jimmiee has to say.)

And try this 487-post, 10-year-running thread: https://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...ion-flush.html

I read all the posts in those, and other, threads, and I cut & pasted a number of the key posts into a Word document that is still 26 pages long. My intent is to cull and combine and condense and collate and come up with as compact a document on this as I can. Unfortunately, who knows when I will get that done; so in the meantime, you'll just have to peruse those threads if you want to glean the excellent information from them.
