Tire Question for NEW FJ Owner from new owner

I just purchased a set of alloy wheels for my FJ with what looks like brand new dunlop tires on them from a wheel seller on Ebay. The seller was in San Jose, CA and did not know the VIN # the tires came off of. I sort of have a little bit of concern about the recall but the tire's DOT matches the DOT# on my new FJ that isn't in the affected lot of vehicles.

These tires still have the full whiskers on them so they weren't ran much if at all. Did any of you recent members switch your wheels with the dealer for something besides alloy wheels before taking possession in the San Jose area?

I put the tires on this evening and they looked fine. I guess I'm looking for a little piece of mind and trying not to doubt going ahead and putting them on my FJ. I don't think a dealer would have one of the early models still on the lot to pull the tires off of and I don't think they'd have resold them.

Not sure how assuring this would be to you but my dealer was instructed to drill the old tires when performing the SSC 60D. So any of those tires will not be usable again. I wanted the old tires but they said they cant even give them away....Chances are you will be just fine if the DOT# matches with your current non-affected FJ....

Damn, you mean my FJ and I are already old

Can you ask who you bought them from what the LAST part of the vin was just to be sure? I don't think the recall covers tires that were sold (aka second hand owners)

Did you actually get the black steel rims @ delivery? That would be one of the few. I just traded my alloys and Dunlop's for a $650.00 credit. I'd still try toget the vin # though.

Re: Tire Question for NEW FJ Owner from new owner

The guy that sold the tires gets them from local dealer take offs. These were brand new and don't appear to have been used more than off the truck and around the lot. He could not get a vin# for the vehicle they came off of. The seller was located in San Jose CA.

I don't want to give them back, trade them in or anything just looking for a little piece of mind. It would be great if someone like me had just purchased a new FJ within the last couple of weeks and said they had them yank the alloys off for TRD's or whatever. My post was just a shot, I've installed the wheels this evening and I'm running them.

The dealers here want to charge $1700 for a set of alloys, at least that is the price I was quoted from 3 places. That is without the tires.

I do think those of you that have been able to enjoy your FJCs for several months are old. or maybe I'm just jealous.

I've been trying to find one on a lot equipped the way I wanted for 2 months. Finally, a dealer located 2 hours away started trying to find what I wanted and found a match in Pittsburg except for it having the steel wheels. It has CQ, rack, wheel cover, hitch, arm rests, and carpet mats. I could have done without the arm rests, mats and wheel cover but figured I'd splurge.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Don't forget to offer them steelies to some lucky forum member at a fair price. That is if you still have them.
