Re: Why does the paint suck so bad?
Be warned, several years ago a guy on a Toyota forum introduced me to the world of detailing. If you go to a detailing forum - like autopia.org, you will drink from the fire hose of information. FWIW, I caught the bug and started detailing on the side 7 years ago, it's fun IF you don't get carried away, Keep It Simple!
Best advice, new or new to you - buy a quality car wash like Duragloss, claybar - Mothers is good, cheap and easy to get, wax - now, here's where you can spend the $$, but, honestly - price does NOT equal quality. I like a product called Blackfire Wet Diamond, Autogeek sells it, ain't cheap but it's good! And a little goes a LONG way!
Any bugs or bird bombs need to be removed ASAP, otherwise they will etch in and depending on paint/poop/time - could require repainting, if you're lucky, maybe they will buff out.
Toyota paint is funny, our van was as tough as any Audi/BMW I'd ever done, but I have seen Tundra paint on the soft side and easily marred.
