Re: Front Runner roof racks any good?

I had a similar issue when mine was first installed; although I only noticed it when opening or closing doors. In my case, the allen bolts securing the 'side profile' rails together were slightly loose, allowing for a slight rattle. I knew that because I could create a bit of play between the short and long rail on one side by wiggling it back and forth. Once I snugged those specific bolts up, the rattle went away. You indicate you've already re-torqued yours so likely not the case here, but wanted to share just in case.

Re: Front Runner roof racks any good?

Been looking at getting a roof rack for a long time. I like the thought of an all aluminum rack because they are light weight and won't have rust issues, but I would like something that can hold my Maggiolina as well.

I have a problem with a rattle in my FR roof rack. When I close my door or drive down a rough road, I hear a constant rattle. It sounds like a washer under a loose bolt, but nothing is loose. I pulled it down the other day and re-torqued everything and it still rattles. It happens whether the rack is loaded or not.

Anybody else have this issue? How did you fix it?
Do you think it might be the wind deflector that is rattling up there?

I just tried it and it didn't work. As near as I can tell, the rattle seems to be coming from where the floor slats contact the side rails. I re-torqued all of the Allen head screws but it's still rattling. Maybe a small bead of Silicon on each slat will help.
Have you checked your wind deflector? In many cases, this is what causes a rattling noise.

Shoot us a few photos when you get a chance, and we will see what we can do to fix this noise issue.

Do you have the side rails like mine? I noticed if you don't get the risers tight they tend to rattle. It's a little annoying but not enough that I have fixed it yet LOL Still loving the rack.

No, I don't have the side rails, just the basic flat rack. During my Moab trip last week, I wrapped a ratchet strap around the outer rails and tightened it as much as I could. It helped for a while, but after a day or two, it was squeaking again.

Thats just strange. Did you check the side rails where they join? Are they offset or do they line up together. I would email Front Runner. They were always quick to help and answer any questions I had.

Amazing rack! Worth every penny!
I got the 8" extension and moved it to the front side instead of the back. I think it looks better that way. At first I didn't put the wind deflector on which caused really bad wind noise but after putting the wind deflector on its as if it isn't even there.
Could you take a straight on side shot? I'm contemplating moving mine forward but I'm not sure how it would look. I tend to load to the back which is why I initially have it towards the back. Thanks

Hey this is the only shot I have on my phone from the side. I can take another one tomorrow when it's light out.

Thats what I wanted thank you. I'm still torn though LOL I think it looks good either way. How is your mileage after the install? If your's took less of a hit I might switch it.
