That Annoying Hole Worn In The Driver's Seat At Hip Height!

Hey Fellow FJers,

I understand that a design defect caused a little piece of metal to wear against the driver's seat material right about where your left hip sits, eventually wearing through into an unsightly hole! Never seen a high-miles FJ without one in fact....

Any ideas for fixing/patching short of a complete reupholster that don't look cheesy?

Thank you for sharing!

Happy Trails,

-FJS

I got a quote of $375 just to fix the hole in the seat.

On mine it looks like the previous owner sprayed some headliner glue to keep the fabric from pulling/ripping more.

Even before I took possession I ordered a set of seat covers from seat covers unlimited. I generally stay kind of dirty so I was going to cover the seats even if there wasn't a hole. As for cheesy....I'll let you know when I get them in another month.

Filled the hole with mattress foam, covered it with an iron on fabric patch and then covered everything with Clazzio Seat Covers.

After Monday and Tuesday even the calender says WTF

Ballistic nylon seat covers before the hole started. Keeps the seats clean and when I sell the FJ in 99 years hopefully there won't be a hole in the seat.

I put a small piece of plastic over the metal that it was rubbing on, added a bit of foam then an iron on patch like what's used on clothing. It wore through again after 25-35K miles so I did it again.

I did this. when it gets frayed around the edges i peel it off and put a new one on. other than the edges getting like they are now it last a long time. this one has been on for a year.

Re: That Annoying Hole Worn In The Driver's Seat At Hip Height!

^^^ Nice!

Not just an FJ problem. It's happened to multiple cars in my past. I think it has to do with the way I (and most everyone else) get in and out of the car. Probably my belt loops, or belt, or rivets on my jeans, rub on the seat. After thousands of ins and outs, you get a wear spot, and eventually a hole.

Need to find a preventative solution as it hasn't happened to mine yet...
