Hello, everyone!

I have a 2007 FJ cruiser, that I've had for about a year and a half and have absolutely loved it! I was walking out to my FJ yesterday and found what looks like a rusted U bolt near the rear passenger side tire. Does anyone happen to know what this might go to? I have attached the image to this post.

Thank y'all so much for your help!

Re: Help?

I'm almost 100% sure it goes to the other half that isn't in the picture.

To me it looks like something you'd see on an exhaust pipe or pipe and muffler or holding the exhaust to some part of the vehicle. Your driveway looks pretty clean, have a wander under the FJ and see if you can find the other half hanging around.

What doesn't kill me makes me more cynical.

Iffn you grab a bigger hammer and that doesn't fix it, then the problem is electrical.

Re: Help?

Welcome from Oregon

Agree, part of a clamp. Not sure where its from other than a muffler clamp as mentioned. Is there much rust under your FJ?

Re: Help?

Looks like remnants of a u-bolt from a 1990's era Jeep Wrangler. I recommend taking a peak under your FJ like previously stated. It's possible you drove over a Jeep and the rest of the Jeep is still under there. Hopefully that's all you have left to shed and nothing else hung on.

How far from the end of your driveway was it? Any chance that it fell of someone's car driving by your place? We have all dropped a glass on a hard floor and when cleaning you find glass way far away from the point of impact. In that scenario a 4-5 foot drop the glass is traveling (super generousplus impact force) a couple feet per second and it flies everywhere. I've seen parts fall off vehicles driving down the road and even at slow speeds they can travel pretty far. Hope it's from a car that passed by your house and ended up in your driveway. None the less a thorough inspection under your FJ would be worth knowing it's not from your Fj. It looks a lot like a leaf spring shackle to me. Judging by the picture there is a flat witness mark where it was rubbing on something for a while before it finally broke off.

Re: Help?

yep, either a rear axle U bolt (clamps the axle to the springs, on a leaf spring truck like a Jeep), or an exhaust clamp (though it would have been a really large diameter exhaust pipe)
