I think thats about where i was when i did the front ones
Still had plenty of pad, but fairly sure i warped my rotors coming down from a mountain trip some time. Rear is still good at 125k mi. Had to be a pain pulling that ebrake all the time. I would get tired ofnthat super quick

I posted it here somewhere many years ago, but I had around 155,000 miles on my FJ when I got new brakes for the first time. I was also just slightly less than that on the pickup I had before it. I got my vehicles serviced at my dealer and they checked them every time and they were good until then.

166k miles and still plenty of pad left on my 08. When itís time Iíll definitely buy Toyota OEM pads.

Re: 80,831 miles until 1st brake job!

I bought new pads and I was going to put them in one afternoon. There was 75k miles on them. Looked at what was left of the old pads, the reinstall limit and the thickness of new pads. Using advanced mathematics I figured they were less than 35% worn. New were 11.5mm, these were at 8mm, required replacement at 1mm. Front and back, left and right had similar wear. I will check again at 150K. I would never go down to 1mm. Those things just are not wearing out.

Re: 80,831 miles until 1st brake job!

Sadly, when my FJ was serviced just before I bought it, the front brakes were replaced (80k miles) with aftermarket parts (painted black). Merely 25k miles later the RH side is seized, and badly overheating the hub (and ruining the otherwise fine rotor and pads, and making me worry now about that wheel bearing as well).

The OEM Toyota parts cost about 2x more than the "you rolls the dice and you takes your chances" stuff from Cardone/Rock Auto/AutoZone/Napa/OReileys, but lasts more than 4x as long, by my sample size (and reading a ton of other threads on this forum researching on seized calipers). That, plus not having to do the job over again (or worse, having to pay to have it done over again).

That makes it cheaper to pay more for the good stuff.

Oh, and regular flushing of the brake fluid (recommended interval is 2 years) helps immensely with brake system longevity, by flushing out the old fluid with new before its water absorption gets a chance to start rusting the pistons internally.
