There are 3 gulches trails in the area. Hackett, Metburry, and Longwater.
We ran Hackett Gulch first. It is supposed to be the hardest. Yellow FJ stayed back at camp.
There was a fire in 2002 that burned down alot of the forest along these trails.
Only a couple challenging spots in this trail. I was following a suburban from Texas which went slow through the tight spots but they didn't seem to have any issues either.
At the very end of the trail there is a water crossing that goes to a dead end, so there isn't much of a reason to cross it. But we saw something in the middle of the river and had to investigate lol.
A jeep didn't quite make it!! And the suburban winched him out. We joked around with them a little after they had rescued the jeep and hung out down by the water, had some lunch and pulled out. Beautiful area. Rocks remind me of pics I've seen of the 'con.
I missed the turnoff for Longwater but we ended up doing Metburry Gulch.
Only one tippy spot on this trail made it challenging. There was probably a better line thru here but I didn't bother trying to find it.
We ran back to the campsite for supper, then drove 7 hours back home the following day. Ain't no place like home.
The FJ did great and there is very little I need
to change. I'm proud of it. What an awesome adventure machine. My wanderlust has been quenched for the time being.
Without getting too sappy, I learned some valuable lessons during this trip. Even if nothing seems to be going my way, we can still have fun no matter what.
Feel free to post any pics of us if you have any.
