just trying to figure out the 2007 I recently bought. First time I drove it at night I noticed I was'nt able to locate the window controls on the driver door because they didn't have have sort of back light to illuminate the switches. The only one I could barely see was the door lock switch and it was very faint. Is this normal or do I have bulb(s) out?

Its normal. Welcome to one of the small but annoying oversights in fj design: craptacular interior lighting. Enjoy your fj, its been a yr and a half and i still love mine :)

Check out the super bright $6 dome light in the picture. I have one in each dome light spot.

This is on a bright sunny day.

Very easy to add LED lights on the door panels. Like this, on the door handle and beverage holder.

I really like that idea (beverage holder)

I find that I miss the door-grab "pocket/coin holder" feature of my old honda civic... Over the last 16 years of driving that, I've gotten so used to putting things there like :

- Spare change
- Lighter
- Flashlight

Though there is a door compartment in the FJ, it's low, and not as handy a location as the door grab usually is.... Thanks for posting the pic!

@OP.... don't worry, muscle memory will soon take care of all the new and odd layout issues.... First time I went to use the wipers was funny.... didn't even realize the rear wiper was going as I wondered why the windshield wipers were not working... ahh... lever clicks too!!

The dome light LED upgrade, is that just a matter of replacing the existing dome light bulb with one of those funky looking LED bulbs? (silver bullet ends with flat panel of 9-12 small LED's in between) Saw those bulbs on eBay for about $18 each- has anybody installed those? Are they noticeably brighter?

I saw Toyota offers an LED dome light upgrade but it was going for about $100 on eBay, don't think I want to spend that much. Just looking for a brighter interior (with a tighter budget) if anybody has gone that route and loves the results, I would definately consider spending the $$.

The LED upgrade was one of my first--works great- Just today I talked my dealer into replacing the intermittent pin switches for the lights/alarm since they seem to be an issue--
Funny thing, i've found the windows/door locks very intuitive and not and issue in the dark--I think you'll quickly get used to it--

The power is coming from the dome light circuit.

3 wire "flat" ribbon at the A-Pillar.
