2007 FJ > 200,000 miles - $11.6K - should I?

I've been looking for a low cost FJ - seems like an oxymoron :-) So, I've found a 2007 FJ with MT, 4X4, A-TRAC with just over 200,000 miles for $11,600. So, I'm wondering if I'd just be buying something that's at the end of its life. I don't want to have to continually dump large quantities of cash into it to keep it alive. And I need the truck to be reliable enough to pull a MC trailer (2000 lbs total weight) on trips (500-1500 miles each way). This truck has a very good history of oil changes every 5000 miles, so it obviously seemed to be owned by someone who cared a bit. But, there are a lot of things that can go wrong. I plan to go test drive it later today. Anyone have any thoughts, like things to look/listen for, or expected longevity of a well-maintained FJ? Thanks!

Man, when I read this thread title my response was going to be: Do it as long as you don't drive long distances. But adding a trailer even tougher.

My parents have a sequoia with 190k on it. It still feels very solid and it a towed our camper on many trips.

If it must be a 200k mile vehicle, what better to do it in than a Toyota?

Your going to spend some money on it. Depends on what is still original.

Only a handful on here with over 200K

If maintained properly, and you can do a thorough inspection, offer him 10k or so.

I prefer an auto, but the manual transmission is a big plus. No auto to worry about rebuilding.

If the frame looks good, and there aren't rust issues, it could be a good buy and easily go another 200k.

The FJ for fun 200K would be ok. Constant long trips with a trailer I would buy something with less miles JMO

Re: 2007 FJ > 200,000 miles - $11.6K - should I?

Thanks for all the replies. I drove the FJ today, and it seemed really tight. No rust anywhere (Memphis is a good climate for that). Underneath looked really clean - must have spent it's life on the highway, as there is no rust on the suspension as a sand-blasted truck would have. Only things I noticed were:
  1. Clutch engages near the top of the pedal travel - might this be an indication of clutch wear, or is this normal?
  2. There is a whine in the drivetrain. Stops with the clutch disengaged at speed, so not the tires or parts that keep rotating. Expected, or possible issue?

Buy it.

200K - it's just getting warmed up.

What size tires will fit on my FJ?

The owner's manual for your FJ is right here. <--- This is a link. Many answers to your questions are contained within.

My Fj has 226k miles. Just freshened up the suspension. No squeaks, no rattles. Transmission is smooth as butter.... Rear end does whine a bite. And I have replaced alternator twice. Otherwise it has been great. You should make sure to change the trans fluid and install a cooler.
