After a long search and lots of consultation in these forums, I finally found my FJ ? She’s a 2007 black cherry with 4WD, and was babied by an elderly gentleman who only drove it to the golf course and back — under 50k miles and in amazing shape! I found her on Autotrader.com in Ridgway, CO, and got a good deal because his granddaughter goes to the same art school I did ?
The radiator had been sitting with fluid so it had slight seepage. He took $500 off the price and I drove to Albuquerque and had it replaced. Just made it to Austin today. First date... 1000 miles. First windshield star on my way too, damnit. Read all about it and gonna call insurance about glass deductible. Tomorrow I’ll get an oil change and have the fluids topped off before heading home to New Orleans! Considering Zietbart since the undercarriage is still pristine...
Congrats on a nice FJ find. Hopefully you'll have many years of enjoyment from it. I've had good luck with having stone chip repairs made on windshields to keep cracks from spreading and reducing the visibility of the ding.
Great Find! I also studied the Forum before purchase and looked for over a year...still have my FJ and loving it for past 5 years..
Sorry about your windshield. If its a star shape chip or tiny it could be filled and that may stabilize it- maybe look into that first, and remember all the advice about the windshield clips and making sure they know about FJ windshields.
Congrats on a great find! Please take it somewhere for rust protection. I have a Voodoo Blue 2007 and mines in good condition as well. Part of what helped keep mine rust free was a cheap sound deadener applied in 2007.
Get someone to rust protect it ASAP.
I have seen some newer FJs with frame rot.
Loved the '07. It was my first, but the sticker on my invoice said the color was Bordeaux not Black Cherry. Sold mine last year with 75k miles for a 2012 with 11,000 miles. Wish I had kept both!
Well, when you get back to NO, go and have some coffee and beignets for me, ok? Congratulations!
You made a good pick. My 2007 black cherry FJ, Hell*****, broke 300,000 miles this spring. My plan is to get a million before I go to feed the worms...
Hint - I used spray-on bedliner on my body underparts back when I had mine new. I have zero body rust. The frame and the rest I didn't mess with - because I am a guy and a wrencher and knew I would be futzing and changing things for years.
I have become a big believer in bedliner - tougher than Ziebarting if you are going to play in the mud and dirt. If not, then you probably be fine in Texas without even the Ziebart - very little salting of roads going on in most of the state. But if you are making runs to the beach - do something for protection...
You gotta name your ride though...LOL
