I will be setting up some appointments hopefully within the next couple of weeks to check out and test drive some FJ's!!

After lurking this forum I've got some info on what to look for, what to ask, and what to be cautious about etc. but at the end of the day I'm still no mechanic nor am I mechanically inclined enough to spot potentially crucial details in purchasing a vehicle.

Any FJ'ers out in the Vancouver area that wouldn't mind helping me out once I narrow down some choices? Help me pick one out and look it over!

Much appreciated guys!
Thanks

welcome to the forum ... not sure what you're looking for, but some of the early build 07s had fender bulge issues, and rear diff issues ... with the 2010 models they put a larger read diff in ie 8.2" as opposed to the 8" for 07-09 ... if I were buying one I'd definitely want one with the rear e-locker ... lots of threads here that talk about options etc, etc ... generally they're a good truck that share the Toyota reputation for reliability and build quality ...

Also don't let the process of importing a vehicle from the states throw you... it's pretty easy, especially with a "newer" used vehicle like the FJ's are.
Keep an eye on the used FJ's for sale here on this forum... you sometimes find a pretty good deal.

If you want any upgrade work done after you have bought the FJ, there is a really good guy in Abbotsford. Ryan from Disturbed Industries. He used to work for Toyota before he went into business, he knows the vehicles like the back of his hand, and has mobile guys for tints and all the other work that he doesn't do himself. I have found his advice to be 100% solid. Due to his inside knowledge Ryan has even sent me elsewhere sometimes if he anticipates a problem might arise. A really honest, and good guy, and there aren't many.

Just for clarity you are in Vancouver, BC Canada, ?? Welcome to the Forum.... I have a 2008 Trail Team (TT) and it has been flawless as said some problems where found with the early 07 models but most of those should have been corrected by now. You want to find one that is in good clean condition, check all through the under side looking for damage... dents and heavy scratches tell you it has been used pretty hard off road and would require much closer inspection. There are some around that are in really great condition that have not seen any off highway use, these units you want to check that the 4wheel drive and differential locker functions correctly, you can also take to a independent garage/Mechanic and have a assessment done if you are not comfortable. For the most part the FJ is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road today dam near bomb proof operation. Good luck with your search.
