Thumbs up Better Mileage, Acetone added to regular gas

Acetone added to regular gas. (Not premium)
I have been running mileage test over the past 2 months and here is what I have found.
My FJ will get
1. About 18 miles per gallon when I fill with regular. (288 miles per 16 gal)(Runs but noticeably less power.)
2. About 19 miles per gallon when I fill with premium.(304 miles per 16 gal)(Runs well)
3. About 21 miles per gallon when I add 6oz of acetone with regular. (336 miles per 16 gal)(Runs Great. Better then normal premium.)
4. About 19 miles per gallon when I fill with premium and add 6oz of acetone. (304 miles per 16 gal)(Runs well but no extra mileage.)

OK so you say only 2 mpg better is not much but I am also saving 20 cents per gallon on the gas and getting 10.5% better mileage over normal premium gas.

16 gal x .20cents = $3.20 saved on the gas per filling.
32 more miles per fill = 32/19=1.68 gals = $5.04 with $3.00 gas.

So now I have seen,
$3.20 + $5.03 = $8.23 saved with every tank of gas.

Acetone cost $13. per gallon which is .61 cents per filling.

I fill at least every week so I save,
$7.62 x 52 = $396.24 per year.

I keep my cars about 10 years so that is $3962.40 saved over the time I will own my FJ. Not Bad!

There are some that say the acetone will cause rubber to swell and I am sure that in high concentrations it will but I am adding only 0.3% acetone to each gallon of gas.

As I know acetone will eat some plastic products and damage the paint, I refill a 6oz finger nail remover bottle and only keep this in my FJ. It is the perfect amount for a full tank refill and the plastic is for acetone.

For all of my testing, I filled at the same pump and did not top off after the pump stopped.

Please let me know what you think and if you try this let me know your results.

Re: Better Mileage, Acetone added to regular gas

After reading on several sites I found the starting point of about 1 oz for 5 gal. Also I was finding that more then 2oz per 5gal was said not to help. I first tried 3oz per tank of 16gal and had some increase, when I went to 6oz per tank I found even better results.

From what I have been reading and from my test it seems 6oz is about the sweet spot for regular.

Re: Better Mileage, Acetone added to regular gas

Here's the wiki of acetone use as an automotive fuel additive

"Some automotive enthusiasts add acetone at around 1 part in 500 to their fuel, following claims of dramatic improvement in fuel economy and engine life. This practice is controversial as there are counterclaims that acetone has no measurable effect or may in fact reduce engine life by adversely affecting fuel system parts. Debates on this subject and claims of Big Oil cover-up intensified when the practice was addressed on the popular American TV show MythBusters in 2006, and shown to have negative effect in the televised fuel economy test."

Really all that says is there has been no proof one way or the other, and even some tests prove the opposite... I'm hesitant to try...

BTW... The OP may or may not have started this post to troll for flamers... Those who get worked up over this sort of thing should take note that he has 3 posts... I noticed some people sort of freaked out in the fuel catalyst post.

WWJCD? What would Jeremy Clarkson do?
