I can't believe I'm asking this but - thoughts on the 2019 Wrangler?

First and foremost I love my FJ, I swore I was going to keep it until the wheels fell off. 2008 with 80k miles on it. Never driven in the winter, always kept in a garage. But, I have a motorhome that I want to tow a vehicle behind. I'm limited to 5,000 lbs for the towed vehicle. The FJ would just make it except mine is an auto (standard is a non-starter due to the Commander in Chief's driving situation) and cannot (according to Toyota) be flat towed on 4 wheels.

So, as much as I hate to admit it I've been thinking about replacing the FJ with a 2 door 2019 Wrangler. 2018 was the first year of the redesign so I don't want one of them. The Heep, excuse me, Jeep can be flat towed with an auto transmission and it's well under my weight limit.

Anybody have any firsthand experience with the new Wrangler or if you want to admit to it, any friends with one and what are they saying? I haven't reached the visit the dealer level yet, just thinking about options at this point. Buying a small vehicle just to tow isn't an option, I don't want the extra insurance, taxes, etc. for a spare vehicle. I want something that will be my daily driver as well as a toad.

Thanks

If you want to keep the FJ and tow it check out the For Sale fj related section for parts. Someone just posted up the Remco disconnect for FJs. They towed an FJ with an automatic. There are plenty of people in the towing section that have towed both manuals and automatics too.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that option.

Re: I can't believe I'm asking this but - thoughts on the 2019 Wrangler?

Overall a decent vehicle.
Jeeps have came a long way since the YJ, Chrysler’s attempt at the Jeep, years.

I have friends that have the new JLs.
I have not heard any problems out of them like the 2007 JKs

You hear more road noise. They ride and drive like a solid front axle vehicle. Gas mileage is about the same. Less front seat room.

But for wheeling they go places in stock form that the FJ won’t in stock form.
Taking the top off is nice in the right weather conditions.

If you decide on a top of the line Rubicon they have more creature comforts than the FJ including lockers on front and rear.

Resale value is still good if you decide you hate it.

People I know that have newer ones really seem to like them. I pee on them when they're not looking.

The one thing they have that I am jealous of is the pushbutton sway bar disconnects.
