For Your Entertainment -- 100 ft lb torque

Over the past few weeks I have been putting on skids, painting over rust, and some other not so interesting things.

During this time I noticed the rear diff fill plug was rounded off

This on a 10,000 mile vehicle that has had the plug touched twice .. once when I watched a master tech replace all the fluids with Amsoil, and the second after going through some deep water, I asked them to check it for contamination.

Call to Toyota Customer Care, they ask how I want this resolved, I said, "mail me a new plug, if the idiots can't even use the correct socket on something as simple as a fill plug, then the dealership will never ever touch my truck unless absolutely necessary!!"

Time to put on new fill plug ...............

.
.
.
45 minutes later ......
.
.
.
Specs call for 36 ft lbs of pressure to tighten the fill plug.
.
.
.
I tried 1/2 drive ratchet ... nothing ..
.
.
20" breaker bar ...... nothing ..
.
.
20" breaker bar with 3 foot iron pipe for leverage ...... nothing ..
.
.
ok, then, 18" cast iron pipe wrench, with 3 foot iron pipe for leverage ....
.
.
and ..
.
.
about 100 ft lbs of pressure later ......

.
.

Effing A$$holes !!!!!!

Re: For Your Entertainment -- 100 ft lb torque

G'day Moose.
In 3 years Yota have only touched my rig 3 times....
First "free" service, where they did nothing.
When they replaced the rear bumper, under warranty as the meatheads could not fit the number plate correctly to the bumper, and hacked it up...DUH.
Third time was the seatbelt recall ...

So glad you have learnt not to let them screw up your truck, any more....

Cheers
Baz

If you're using a cheater bar, you're pulling a lot more than 100 ft-lbs.

Re: For Your Entertainment -- 100 ft lb torque

Good thing my warrantee is up and they never got a chance to touch the fluids in my truck lol. Personally I think its a dealership by dealership basis. I know the guys that work on my truck at Toyota and they know better than to do something sketchy with mine. Sucks to hear but glad they are getting it resolved and not just blowing you off.

So sorry to hear this Moose, absolutely ridiculous! Do take the time to write the letter. You will be very pleasantly surprised by the power of the PEN!
I'm sure u are very relieved to have gotten that off. But that explains the shiny new fill plug in the pictures I saw of your diff skid....
