Waterproofing exterior electrical connections

On my FJ's roof lights I notice that the harness connector is just open to the world and asking for water to get inside and make it fail eventually. I guess this isn't likely otherwise they wouldn't do it, but has anyone done any additional taping or other kind of waterproofing electrical connections that are potentially exposed to water? If so, what did you use?

THANKS!
