There are pluses and minuses to both twin tube and monotube designs. I have nothing against Bilstein - love 'em for road cars - but for off road use monotubes like Bilstein are vulnerable to rock dings that can impeded the piston travel in the shock, and can't compress as far for the given shock body length.

That's mostly true except when they have remote reservoirs. In that case the gas chamber and floating piston is in the reservoir.
Gas shocks also tend to cool quicker since they are not surrounded by the foam and outer reservoir. That's why that type of shock is more popular with desert racers. I myself wouldn't hesitate to install FCP's on my FJ since I never would drive hard enough to even start taxing them. Foam shocks can overheat, I've seen some quit working after crawling on a long very rough road. After fishing for a couple of hours the bubbles separated out of the oil and the shock were back to normal. These however were nowhere near the size and construction of the FCP's.

As some like to say, you can't argue with science and real world testing. Here it is:

Yeah, remote reservoir shocks are another ballgame altogether. I don't tend to think about those because as you say they aren't needed or worth the expense for our application.

Re: Ironman Foamcell Pro Suspension

Finally ordered a set! This will be my first time installing a suspension. I've watched install videos about 100 times already, fingers crossed I don't run into trouble. (Also installing LR UCAs)

How is everyone else liking their FCPs?

@Vegas_Nick have you extended your front bumpstops or swapped them out with something like the Timbrens? (Or swapped + extended). I think this could control my fender rub on compression & make my setup pretty perfect...

Hey man. I never have, although I believe you are probably right about the Timbrens.

Yeah - I just pulled the trigger on a set of Timbrens for the front, but I'll probably space the front OE stops with some washers & a longer bolt while I wait for them to arrive (they're shipping from Canada, Eh).
I'll also cut that stupid captive nut for the charcoal canister mount off the inside of the fender & maybe put a round head bolt in there upside down with a nut on the top of the fender...

I'll post some pics once I'm back in Dubai.
