Ok guys, I am moving this to off topic....
Why wouldn't this be moved to the TOOLS section?

Re: Welders

Thanks for all the help you guys! Btw i had no idea their was a tool section I def. dont want to cheap out by any means but just need to figure out which is the best one for my needs. I wish I had a 220v in the garage but it would cost a ton to run one from the house (100 yards away) One of my main goals is not having to buy gas all the time to fuel the system. I have watched a welder work all the time down at the boat yard and hes given me a couple lessons but he always runs out of fuel!!!

Re: Welders

I've got a 20+ year old Lincoln 225 DC Welder I picked up at a farm auction for $65 last year. I got a box of DC rods and started practicing on scrap. Not good yet but good enough. The right rod makes all the difference. You can find a book called "ARC WELDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEGINNER" It helped me understand what was going on and has plenty of lessons in it to help you learn.

If you've got electric in the garage you got 220.

Re: Welders

I agree you get what you pay for, the OP stated he didnt want to spend too much on a welder, $500 is too much for a beginer who might decide next week he dont like welding and give up, I have a $100 Harbour freight one and iv had it for 2 years i use it for small jobs i need to do at home, still works like the day i bought it. (which means it works as good as all the expensive ones)
It might not last 25 years but who cares for $100.

wait is 220 out the wall? I guess 110 is out the dryer? Btw I know nothing about electricity except that your mouth tingles if you chew on wires

Lots of good info here. I'm looking for a MIG welder. This should be in tools...

I think it's "technical discussions", but hey, it's much better then "off topic".

Re: Welders

Thanks Mo . I think since welders are tools, it should be in tools section. It might have been Larry that moved it to Technical discussion. Thanks for rescuing it from off topics though.
