hahaha.

I constantly get told how clean my engine bay is. In all seriousness, all i do is take the pressure washer to it gingerly whenever i go wash the FJ.

Sweet jeebus..

Mine hasn't looked like that since, July 06

I've tried the pressure washed a bunch of times.. no luck for me

haha thanks, mine is about 15 months old too.

You are probably at the point of having to use some strong degreaser. Personally, this is what i would do.

-Get you some strong, enviro friendly degreaser

-Remove all the slightly removeable stuff. Intake hosing, engine cover, battery, fan shroud, etc. As much as you want to remove.

-Tape/wrap plasic trash/grocery bags over stuff not to soak, most notably, the fuse block on the drivers side, over the throttle manifold, etc.

-The wreak some cleaning havoc on that engine.

I haven't ever gone this far. But, after every trail run, i spend about 3 bucks on the body, and then about 5-8 on the undercarriage and engine bay. I am FAR FAR FAR from a neat/clean freak. But i know that a clean engine is a healthy engine.

Re: Degreaser

Costco carries a degreaser called Oil Eater. You get a spray bottle and a big refill bottle for pretty cheap. Here's a photo from Costco of the stuff.

Is there anything that this harms besides eyes? Rubber, plastic, paint?

Re: Degreaser

Dominic,

We use this at my shop:
Walt's Waxes and Polishes - Red Degreaser - Walts Polish & Wax Sales, Inc.

Best we have found for our industrial machinery/maintenance use, but be sure to dilute it. It is strong and will eat your skin a bit if used straight without the protection of gloves and the like.

You may want to test it a bit in a small area though just to be safe...before doing the whole underside of the rig.

Yup.. when you have mud caked on anything that gets hot, that thing will get hotter than normal.

Washing the paint doesn't matter, the stuff that makes the FJ go forward NEEDS to be cleaned.
