Re: 7 Great Off-Road SUVs That Arenít Jeeps

I had to show this article to my mom, as she drove a Chevy Blazer in high school, a Suzuki Samurai in college, and now drives a Toyota 4Runner. I guess she must have good taste in 4WD vehicles...

None of those are being sold in the US any longer except the 4runner. (Obviously the pathfinder doesn't count because its not a off-road capable SUV any more)

IMO the 4runner is the last great SUV.
Landcruiser ??

Wheeled with a brand new one in Moab

They still have it. But they should at $80,000 for a basic model

Ahhh yes, I always forget about those. Interesting how far they moved away from the FJ cruiser with that one. Plus you never see those around!

Had a k-5 extremely capable easy to repair
Mechanically durable and reliable.bad sheet metal poor ride quality. The fj reminds me of the k5 in size but not anywhere near as solid.

Middle of Kansas? Yep, not many.

Come West 400 miles and you see them every day from the Pigs to the new ones.

I probably see 200 Land Cruiser wagons (80, 100, and 200 series) every day out here.

What size tires will fit on my FJ?

The owner's manual for your FJ is right here. <--- This is a link. Many answers to your questions are contained within.

See the relationship between highway speed and MPG here.

While the current Pathfinder should probably be renamed the Pathfollower, the first-gen (1985-1995) vehicle was a decent off-roader, as it was based on the Hardbody pickup truck with coil springs substituted for the pickupís rear leafs. Nissans of the í80s and í90s were every bit as well built as Toyotas, and early Pathfinders feature stout engines, cool styling, and a good selection of built-up parts. Considering all that, itís baffling to us that there are so few for sale or that they sell for so little: You should be able to find a good project truck for less than a thousand bucks.
I had a '92 Pathfinder and loved it. It took a beating and nothing hung below the frame to take a beating on trails. Never had any engine issues either. I don't know how common problems were, but in my case, the frame rusted to the point of being non-repairable after about 10 years. I undercoated regularly and sprayed out the frame everywhere I could whenever I was back from a trail, yet it still failed, in several places, rotting from the inside out.

I switched the Pathfinder for an '02 Jeep Liberty, and while the body has rusted badly on the liberty, the "frame" is still clean and solid after 14 years.

I also have an '07 FJC and the frame seems as solid as the day it was new.

Don't know what was up with the frame on the Pathfinder, but that may be why there are few of that vintage out there today.
