Off-line GPS maps, Android

I am looking for a program to map and track where I have been while off-road and out of cell coverage. I am using an app called "My Tracks" now and it works fairly well for me. It has all the maps Google provides. It records files that can be uploaded to Google Earth. While off line or out of cell coverage it just goes blank.
What programs are any of you using. I would like to mount a tablet and use an external GPS sensor on the roof. Maps that are detailed and available off-line are a must or I will just keep using the My Tracks app.
Thanks for any ideas!

I use sygic.
It's ok. I bought it while it was on sale. Works off line. Uses TOM TOM maps. Not sure how well it would do off the beaten track.

That looks like a traditional turn by turn GPS, right? Have you used it off road?

I used to use My Tracks but now I use the Viewranger app instead. The offroad and trail maps are really complete and you can download your entire area before you leave so you can use it on the trail. It is a $15 app but it's awesome and worth it. Never leave home without it!

I've been looking for a GPS app that works without network data as well. I don't understand why Google maps can find my location where ever I am without any issues, but it won't give me directions unless it has a network signal. That's something they should really work on.

I've been using BackCountry Navigator, you can either use it online or download the maps for the area you're going to before you're out of service and use it offline, the app is $10 and the maps are free, unless you want the accuterra maps.
JohnyK and amaclach like this.

Im trying the free versions right now of backcountry and view ranger. View ranger uses bing maps..... not sure how I feel about that but we'll see.
