Rotorhead,

The railroad people did not seem to concerned about the runoff. Stated they had built diversion canals to keep the tracks safe. I know they test ran a new locomotive (shop forman's terminology) right behind us. I met the shop foreman and he told me about it. I would guess they would not put out a completely refreshed locomotive out if there was any chance of problems. I know it did not get back on schedule, or at least a normal turn around time. Being a model railroader it was a lot of fun meeting the guy and talking with him for a few minutes. We also have an FJer that is a brake man on the train. I lost the card he gave me, but his forum name ended in "2000" He knew me from seeing me at the Summit. He did not seem to have any concern about the runoff either.

@TrueGritCruzr ,
What's the location of that Aspen surrounded campsite? That my friend looks likes a little piece of heaven. You are a lucky man to be surrounded by such destinations.

If you come up Last Dollar road from the Telluride side the first mile or two is smooth and wide. You will come to a right turn where there is a wooden sign pointing right that says Last Dollar Road and enter the forest and the road gets rougher and narrower. Donít make that turn go straight and you will be in the open part of the camping area. You will also see a another right turn on a very narrow road that goes to the other camping sites. It dead ends into a green gate a mile or so down. You cross the stream and past the old cabin in the picture too.

The GSP coordinates are 37.98480, -107.95026. Elevation is 9726.

One bad thing with the Last Dollar Rd location is no toilet.

Re: Third Annual Alumni FJ Summit

Sorry if this is the wrong spot, Dan, but didn't know where else to post it. @Thorn661 Here is the pic of my tent after the bear incident. I had heard from Shawn that there was one in the area and even one around Ace's campsite. We were right up the trail from Ace, maybe 3 camps or so. Not sure if Shawn saw one too but he said they were packing up & moved to camping in the Summit lot. Think Heather was a little nervous.

Speaking of bears, this 3rd pic is of the one 25' from the back door of our camper in Montana caught on trail cam the night before we got to the property.

I think Shawn n Heather packed up to leave right after the drawing to get home early. I didnít hear any bear complaints from them.

I had a bear in my camp each night. My dog barked loudly and I yelled when she woke me up. He did no damage but did leave a nice big pawprint on my rug. The word was that this was a 300# cinnamon bear. He could have destroyed my camper easily. Glad he wasnít that aggressive.

But I do keep this handy:
