Need new shocks

So my 2010 team trails edition has 250000 miles on it. I hooked up to a heavy camper (4400 lb which is within the limits and 420 lb tongue weight which is also within the limits) for the first time a couple weeks ago and now the rear end has a lot of sway. I'm assuming it blew out the shocks. I need a heavier-duty shocks so I had considered going with the Bilstein 5100. My mechanic told me to go with a KYB shock but I'm not seeing a lot of information on them. Just trying to find out some information so anything would be appreciated. I drive fast and super aggressive with only about 20% of my travel being off road and about 10% carrying a heavy trailer with a weight distributing hitch.

Re: Need new shocks

If you are noticing something after running the trailer....I'd check underneath really well...sway bar links, rear control arms, ect.

Its likely your OEM shocks were done long before this trailer. Since shocks only dampen the ride, and dont support the trailer really in much a way....id look at the springs too. Lot of weight for the dinky old OEM ones.

Either way, 5100s are good shocks.
Bar3K and pop like this.

I wish I had seen your post a day or so after I commented. I took it to the mechanic and left it to him to put on the 5100. I got it home by the time you commented. I did just hook it up yesterday and man what a difference, that thing barely even lowered. I would highly recommend the Bilstein 5100

I swapped out my 2010 stocks to Bilstein on front and rear. Can't tell you much since I didn't keep stocks long but it definitely rides a little harder which I like. Not so bouncy. Levels out the rig nicely with a spacer on back and fronts set at the highest 2.5 inch lift.
