The rear ending...

It really wasn't too bad, mostly annoying. From what I can tell it either bent the spare tire mount and/or the rear door. Not terribly bad either. I don't see any creased metal but I am pretty sure the spare tire had a little bit more of a slant to it. Now it sits almost perfectly perpendicular to the ground.

Re: The rear ending...

For anyone interested.

We were on our way to go snow shoeing up Millcreek Canyon. I admittedly am not that familiar with the area so I am taking directions from my wife and her mom who do frequent the area. We have some friends following us and when I get the last minute "turn right, turn left" I didn't want to make the abrupt change in direction in the snow and cause an accident so I would go down the road find a parking lot and turn around. Well, in one on these parking lots I was waiting to turn back onto Foothill and that is when the racecar driver that was following us in his ford explorer decided to do a little drifting and slid right into me. Not a the worst accident but annoying.

We still went on to have a great night of snow shoeing followed by dinner at Porcupine Pub and Grill.

Could have been worse. I decided I needed to make a new thread since I was high jacking the other one...

The rear ending...

So I am kind of lazy...
I just pulled the spare off today to look at the damage behind the scenes and the door looks fine. The spare carrier is bent and the rear ender is going to buy one to replace it. Everything else looks good. Thank goodness that I replaced the stock bumper with a steel one last time I was rear ended or else the damage would be way worse.

My concern is the spare wheel. It is cast aluminum and if it was hit hard enough to bend the steel behind it is there any invisible damage that may manifest itself later? The powder coating flacked off where the three lug nuts were when removing the spare and I am 100% positive they were not over tightened so it is from the force exerted on them during the collision. Is there anything to be worried about?

Re: The rear ending...

Personal I wouldn't but that spare tire (rim) on my rig have a bent rim is bad news not worth the issues it will cause later on

Re: The rear ending...

Well I should have taken it right to a collision center. I took the spare off and the carrier was bent. I figured that was all it was. Today I took the wheel/tire assembly to discount to get it checked and it is bent. When I got home from there I took the carrier off to see if I could pound it out rather than replace it and it looks like the door is slightly bent.So tomorrow I will be taking it in to a collision center to get an estimate of damage.

I would also like to see if I could meet up with one of you Utah county/southern SL county guys that would be willing to remove your spare and carrier so I can see if it worth making the insurance claim. The guy that rear ended me is a friend of a friend and has a rather high deductible...

Sorry to hear about it, but I'm happy to hear it wasn't any worse.
