  1. For Sale: "Veteran" 2008 Sandstorm with beige powder-coated wheels

    Vehicles For Sale
Guys n' gals, Veteran is gone to a new home. I have traded him to a sleazy Subaru dealership (Valley Subaru in Longmont) for a used Subaru. It was nice getting to know some of you here - ocr14a, my friend Stevie, and Mike (Vandy58). You cats hang loose! I'll be the dude in the jet-black Impreza.
  2. For Sale: "Veteran" 2008 Sandstorm with beige powder-coated wheels

    Vehicles For Sale
For Sale: "Veteran" 2008 Sandstorm $18,600 So I'm the original owner of "Veteran," a Sandstorm/White '08 FJ. The day's finally come when I send him down the road - maybe one of you folks would like to take him home with you? This truck is very stock - I've made virtually no modifications to...
  3. New FJ Owner in Eastern CO!

    Introductions & New Arrivals
Congratulations on your purchase. As a Coloradoan who's been stuck in field mud before, let me suggest you become really, really familiar with the concept of lowering your tire pressure to 15 PSI, using 4 Low setting, and the use of the rear locker to pull you out of situations where one wheel...
  4. Thinking about selling my rig :(

    General Discussion
You're far better off looking for a stable employer than selling your reliable and fun vehicle that you have made such an effort to modify. I mean, a Toyota, you can depend on. A boss? Not so much.
  5. Replaced my front hubs and bearings today... and my brakes.

    General Discussion
Good question about my detail-poor report, LOL. I have 91.6k miles on the truck - mostly highway. Pads were about 2/3 worn down. I could have driven another year on them but since the whole mess was apart... why wait? Symptoms: an ugly roaring sound which varied directly with wheel speed; this...
  6. Replaced my front hubs and bearings today... and my brakes.

    General Discussion
And BOY, was it a bunch of work. I had followed the thread carefully that's in the maintenance section. I bought new hubs and bearings and some front pads, and I intended to put the whole magilla together in a day or two. I purchased the hubs and bearings from my nephew, who sells TRD stuff at...
  7. Front rotors don't want to come off

    Maintenance Tech
Never mind. I broke out with the rubber mallet and banged on the outsides, and they came off.
  8. Front rotors don't want to come off

    Maintenance Tech
I have an air hammer. Should I just touch the hub area for a couple of seconds just to see if I can break the rust free?
  9. Front rotors don't want to come off

    Maintenance Tech
Kids, I'm doing a bearing and pad replacement, and the front rotors are being recalcitrant. I'm P-Blasting the SH)@)@T out of them, and tap-tap-tapping with the hammer all around. Got any suggestions?
  10. whats up with the horrible visors

    I'd Like to Tell Toyota...
The real horror is the side visors. They don't go far enough to the rear to be of any use when you are driving south in the morning or north at night.
  11. Here come da ugliness: brakes and a bearing

    Maintenance Tech
Bearing check reveals... nothing. So I jacked up all four corners to see if I could figure out what in the Sam Hill was going on - is it a bearing on the right or the left? Front or the rear? I yanked, and tugged and pulled at the wheels left and right, up and down. And could feel no movement...
  12. This is YOUR government... making a 4x4

    General Discussion
It's called the Medium Assault Vehicle - Light. And it only weighs 7,400 lbs. It's cheap, too, at $350,000. Thank goodness they're using carbon-fiber door panels to "keep down the weight." Northrop-Grumman, and their $750,000 toilet seats. I wonder, could a Toyota Hi-Lux pickup do the...
  13. Here come da ugliness: brakes and a bearing

    Maintenance Tech
I have a bearing going out - it's making a God-awful roaring noise. Truck's got 90k miles. I am mechanically inclined and have good tools, but don't have a press. I need to save some dough and can't afford to have mechanics putting their dirty ****-beaters all over my Cruiser. So... who's got...
  14. Fuel tank total capacity test results

    Engine Performance
I thought that when I managed to stick over 19 gallons in the thing I was making history, LOL. I actually shot this pic - I could have stuck more in there but the pump cut out on me because it has a $75 limit.
  15. Chinese FJ Knock Off

    Blog
This is one hell of an insightful post.
  16. Sandi needs help; Trust Abra Auto Body in Boulder?

    Colorado
I must confess, Savvas, that I didn't go through all 11 pages of this thread because of our prior conversation, but I have to say that getting an attorney involved at this stage may be the best remedy for your ills. <shakes head>
  17. Boulder - Labor Day Morning Trail Run & Hike

    Colorado
Well, this trail was a good deal more involved than a "3," as I had a little problem where the road was very off-camber, extraordinarily narrow, and the edge was a 60 degree slope to Perdition. Fortunately, I stopped making the situation worse and called for the expertise of my good friend...
  18. Boulder - Labor Day Morning Trail Run & Hike

    Colorado
You guys who are missing this will be missing... an epic day of relaxation! We may examine a trail that leads to Eldorado Mountain, per Trail Damage. This one rates a "3." So once again, nothing too momentous for our very capable off-road rides, but at least we'll not be watching TV or working...
  19. Transfer Trail (or ?) - Early-morn, Sat., Aug. 27

    Colorado
That was a good time, amigo. Please tell me it wasn't the Bolla Chianti that made you sick! ;-)
