  1. Plastidip or paint

    Interior / Exterior Visual Tech
I don't know that I did anything special, but the Plastidip I put on my silver bumper parts is holding up great after 4 years. No regrets at all.

  5. Pitted windshield?

    Interior / Exterior Visual Tech
"Full auto glass coverage" pays for the cost to repair or replace your damaged auto glass or windshield with no deductible. ... Depending on the state you live in, this can be included in your comprehensive coverage or can be purchased as an add-on to your auto insurance policy. It costs me...
  6. Pitted windshield?

    Interior / Exterior Visual Tech
Make sure you have full glass coverage on your insurance. Worth every penny and then some.
  7. Kenwood Excelon/Toyota specific 6x9 component speakers?

    Stereo / Electronics / Electrical
I had the horrid base stereo, so I swapped in an Alpine head unit and KTP-445A amplifier. I also installed 3/4" C2 tweeters in the dash locations. Been happy with it for 4 years now. I like clean sound, not rattle the neighborhood (usually :) ). You can read my entire "recipe" here FJ...

I've been very happy with the JL Audio C2 6x9s. Clean, full range sound.

What sort of hotel are you looking for, cheap or luxury? There are a ton to choose from. The cheapest motel is the Apache, which is serviceable with a nice pool but elderly furnishings and carpet... or if you are super budget the Lazy Lizard Hostel. Others on the lower end but a bit nicer than...
  10. This is what I call a decent start to get ready for Moab...

IMO a Moab starter kit would consist of sliders and a little lift. Skid plates are not as necessary because Moab is all about ledges, which, with a little care, don't tend to impact underneath in concentrated areas. This is as opposed to crawling through a boulder field, where a rock can poke at...
  11. Looking to buy a FJ Cruiser. Tips you guys want to give me regarding owning or buying one?

    Introductions & New Arrivals
Assuming, of course, that the owner takes it to the dealer for service. I certainly don't let those shysters near my FJ.

Great, but for Moab I strongly encourage you to get good sliders instead of those side steps.
  13. Cruising speed for optimum fuel milage.

    General Discussion
I have noticed that too, when I drive to Moab the best mpg I get is the part from Denver to Grand Junction. Every time.
  14. Cruising speed for optimum fuel milage.

    General Discussion
I have gotten as high as 22 mpg on a 2-lane 60 mph highway, which is about 3 mpg more than I get at 75 mph...depending on wind direction and speed.

  16. Good Onboard Air Compressor for FJ ?/DeWalt DXAEPS2 ?

    4x4 / Off-Road Tech
I would look at something like a Superflow MV50 which will do the job faster, unless those other capabilities (battery etc.) are important to you.
  17. Good Onboard Air Compressor for FJ ?/DeWalt DXAEPS2 ?

    4x4 / Off-Road Tech
I would want to know how much volume that compressor puts out. It may do 120 psi, but volume is more important than psi. I have seen compressors that take 15 minutes to fill one tire. Better than nothing in a pinch, but to air up after a day at the beach can take an hour (seriously).
  18. ***SOLD** 2014 FJ Cruiser Quicksand - 6-Speed Manual Transmission LOADED & EXCELLENT CONDITION

  19. Notes about Installing Ricochet Skid Plates

    4x4 / Off-Road Tech
I have the engine and transmission Ricochets. I have a love/hate relationship with them, I love them when I am wheeling, hate them when it is time for an oil change. I looked at 2010+ skids from other manufacturers at Summitt, but the necessity for the oil filter hatch to be right in the...
  20. FJ's First Snow....WOW!

    Newbie Discussions
Snow traction can vary tremendously based on temperature, previous conditions (like ice underneath), etc. Next time it snows find an empty snow covered parking lot and practice turning at various speeds, braking, accelerating, drifting, whatever. It will help your street driving in the snow...
