The backup sensor system, when activated (dash button pushed in) and in Reverse the backup system takes a pause then beepbeep.......beepbeep......beepbeep..... (continues with two beeps, pause). There is no obstruction behind the vehicle.

I, well my wife but she prefers that I say I, backed into a lamp stanchion in the Post Office parking lot and shattered the drivers side rear silver bumper cover with just a minor scraping onto the left side of the more solid rear center section. I've replaced the rear bumper cover with a new ebay unit and checked the wiring to both sensors. I did change the left side sensor just in case to no effect.

Thoughts?

ETA: I've also searched and browsed the online factory manual with no luck in finding anything on the backup sensor system other than how to remove/replace the sensors.

When vehicle is shifted into reverse, with parking assist turned on, it should beep for 1 sec, then nothing until it detects an obstacle.

A repeating 2 beeps and a pause indicates a problem in the parking system.

To test the sensors, unplug the sensor and measure resistance between the two terminals, should be 8-12k ohms.

There is more info in the fsm on how to check wiring harness, parking ecu, etc, using a multi-meter

BTW, supposedly you can adjust the volume of the beep, at the parking ecu behind the glove box, but I never attempted it

Mine broke years ago and they are just to expencive to bother fixing. You will just have to do it the old school way and look in your mirrors before backing up along with looking both ways......this method still works great. :)

I replaced my sensors after running into a pedestrian while backing up in the dark. Could have cost me license suspension for 2 yrs and I sort of got a helluva motivation to fix them after this.

I used chinese replicas which came out real cheap. I did disassemble the sensor units and pack them with Liqui Moly batterie-pol-fett grease, so they won't suck moisture in. Strange as it may be, this works. Their behaviour is a bit different from oem, but I got used to it.

We all believe that we drive a little better than average, and I do look in my mirrors, but that one time a combination of dusk, dark clothing and a childseat, blocking part of the rear window, got me in real trouble.

Yeah I bought a set off ebay also. When I got them they didn`t work. I had the seller send me another set and they sent me the wrong sensors so after all that I just decided I didn`t need them :)

My sensors failed a while ago. I just purchases two new sensors on Amazon for $24. I'm curious to see how well they will work.

Let us know if they work or not. Like I said I got two sets off ebay and none of them worked. Oem sensors from the dealer were like $200 ea. I wasn`t about to pay that so I just do without them :)
