2007 FJ cruiser is at about 85,000 miles got alternator changed about a year ago in 2019, recently I changed battery (bought branded one DURALAST), after the car wouldn't turn on and also got alternator tested at Autozone, it was metering at "WEAK". I don't seem to understand how a year old alternator can already be running weakly... anyone else experience this? Should I consider something else to be the issue?

check all your cables and connections for corrosion positive and ground sides.

I'll bet that your replacement alternator was an "auto parts store" rebuild.

Get an OEM Denso alternator, rebuilt BY Denso.

A high quality alternator should last at least 100K miles if you don't submerge it in muddy water, or constantly expose it to clouds of fine dust.
