MaharSperling one more thing you will need is the JL Audio HD-RLC Amplifier Remote Level Control and Cable and their amp pacific XD ,Slash amp etc so get the correct one

https://www.amazon.com/JL-Audio-HD-RLC-Amplifier-Control/dp/B0025ZT1IK/ref=pd_sim_107_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0025ZT1IK&pd_rd_r=PJV2854N97G31KBBFWFF&pd_rd_w=5pgNq&pd_rd_wg=EEHpw&psc=1&refRID=PJV2854N97G31KBBFWFF

Got the amp, components and sub in last Friday. Wow, what a difference with the components! Everything sounds much clearer but its especially noticeable with rap where its sometimes hard to tell what they are saying and would sound muddled previously. Also much easier to hear lyrics at high volume without having them drowned out by the sub. Having a real sub has exposed a world of other rattles though so I plan on doing some serious sound deadening over the summer. We ran out of time to do it on Friday.

Hahaha yeah only took three years. That said I think I'm enjoying it more now since I had to wait. Will definitely take a second look at the box. Thanks!

Interesting thread.
I was wondering how you like the alpine ilx-207?
I Currently have one of the Alpine single din units and was thinking of switching to the 207 for the car play/android auto features.
What i'm not sure of is does the car play/android auto mirror your phone?
Would I need an HDMI cable adapter to do this or is it wireless?
In other words whats needed to use the torque app or other real time apps?
My setup consists of the following:
Alpine CDE-HD149BT (to be replaced)
Alpine 6.5" components with tweeters and cross over
Alpine inline 445 amp
Alpine PWE-S8 under seat sub
System sounds great, just need the phone integration(android auto).
And need some good sound deadening.

I’d stop in at a Alpine dealer or call Alpine and talk to tech support to get the info you need... and btw I would be interested in that CDE-HD149BT , let me know on that

I agree with ZoSo that talking to a dealer or even Crutchfield chat would be the best way to get answers to your questions. I use CarPlay and have not had an opportunity to try out android auto. Either way, you will need to plug in your phone. The 107 is wireless but does not support android. I believe the 207 can be plugged directly into the car for diagnostics and real time info similar to torque or maybe even using torque.

Android Auto looks super useful with google assistant. I don't think I'm going to buy an android any time soon but apple really needs to up Siri's intelligence and let third party apps use her for voice control

I will be in touch as soon as I find out if the 207 will do what I think it does.
BTW you helped me out year before last on my setup. Thanks for that.

Yup I remember, if you happen to change it out let me know on the CDE-HD149BT , I sold my FJ this past September and bought a 1970 RS Z/28 and need a single din for it and the Alpine would be perfect

Well after checking out the iLX 207, I decided to keep my single alpine. I have a samsung tablet that I'm going to use for torque pro.
Besides, everting on the alpine is sounding good.

ZoSoIV I do have a question for you:
Do you know of a roof top antenna that does gps, Xm, and am/fm radio reception?
The type that looks like a small black fin.
Nice ride you have there.

Thanks yeah really happy with the Camaro, that Alpine single din is one of my favorite headunits ever Alpine has not updated that in years via there is no need to ...and YES on the antenna they do make one you might look around at different styles but here’s one

Thanks for the tip on the antenna. Been looking where I would put it, I've got one of the large Baha racks on the Toyota so I guess I need to find a spot where the antenna wouldn't be obstructed by the rack. Or are they pretty forgiving in that respect?

Thanks again for the great advice.

You wouldn’t want it under the rack of course , the rear of the roof would be the ideal place and I suppose the front center of the roof would work to

I read every post of this $500 upgrade thread but am at $1600 so far, what went wrong?

Components, amp ,sub all JL and subthump enclosure with logo will do it I guess.

Thanks ZoSoIV and other for the contribs. Can't wait to get everything put together and hear it!

A $500 system is pretty much a headunit a pair of 6x9s for the doors and tweeters for the dash

My direction currently is to use the factory sub w/ an amp I have, plus my Helix DSP/Amp to power the rest of the system. I've swapped the factory radio for a Pioneer DD, my door speakers will be Audiofrog GS690's, and my dash speakers will be some XBL tweeters from Kravchenko. Deadening by KnuKonceptz Kolossus, and closed-cell foam Neoprene sheets from www.thefoamfactory.com, which I'm using for insulation of sound and temp. I'm also replacing the under-vinyl "jute" with 1/4" Neoprene, since some of that jute got water damaged by the time the truck found its way to me.

It definitely wouldn't retail for $500 to build this, but the nice thing about good equipment is it can be used over and over again, from vehicle to vehicle. SO, for the purchases related specifically to just the FJ, which is a set of GS690's and some materials, this build has been cheap so far!
