5AT or 6MT???

Now, I've been a good boy and used 'Search' several times and come away with a few things.
The Auto is better for mileage, city traffic and prefferable for most offroading situations (more finesse?)
The 6spd's only advantage seems to be the AWD aspect(I really do like that by the way), but...
I have so much FUN driving the 6spd!!!
I'am just fishing for some opinions here from you guys with some real world driving time with the 6spd manual (I'm still test driving)- any negative's? or regrets?
Please - fire away - and thanks in advance!

(Oh - and sorry for the can of worms:lol:)

Exactly! The FJ is all about fun.

I enjoy driving my 6 M/T. It's a personal preference that you'll have to make. Any mileage issues/differences are neglible at best IMO, and drving style has a great deal more to do with any other issues.

Pick what you like and enjoy the ride/drive!

Personally I drove both and went back to the 6spd for more test drive time. I bought a 6spd and love it. It shifts great and so far in traffic its been fine. The clutch isnt that heavy. Throws are kinda long but I think that contributes to the big beefy truck driving feel. The AWD of the 6spd helped to sell me on it besides preferring it.
i assume you will drive in snow/ice. the M/T can be annoying in those conditions, IMHO... (beep-beep-beep, straightens you out, repeat)
I like my 6MT! However, the Auto is very nice too. Good luck on your choice. Chris
Not sure what you mean about the MT being annoying in snow and ice. Just finished a very snowy northern Michigan winter and the truck handled beautifully in all conditions. Also don't agree that an auto is better offroad. Easier yes, better not sure. The FJ is sweet regardless of the trans. It boils down to personal choice.

If you do go with the manual, I recommend the URD short shifter and TWM weighted knobs. On of my favorite, and most used mods.
So - go with whats FUN - I can do that! Thanks for the help guys!
Glad to hear the Michigan winter not a problem Toledo, can I ask what tires you run in the winter???
Go with the MT idf you had fun with it. That's what it's all about. I love my MT.

I have an MT and we had lots of snow here in Chicago this year...Never experienced the beep-beep-beep, straightens you out, repeat... So-Cal snow must be different
i bought an MT, cuz it's awd.. I prolly will bought an AT, if they were the same. MT's pretty fun, but in traffic, it sux.
In one of the other threads on this topic, wasn't it pointed out that to properly use an AT you needed to get daily shots of estrogen?

Just kidding! for damned sake :D

Turns out you only need your [email protected] cutting off and held for safekeeping by Toyota. (see Toyota Service Memo from Oct'06).
For me it's MT or nothing. More control for me, I like to drive my car not have my car drive me.
