Buy the stock filter and change it every 5k, or after every wheeling.

And plug the two little holes in the stock air filter housing.

Then get a snorkel.

I installed the K & N system yesterday in 20 minutes, there are other brands that make better claims but I have used K&N in the sand racing for years and i believe in them. oil is a good thing.

I think True Flow makes an intake system for the FJ. I believe they use two stage foam (the same stuff in dirt bikes and ATVs) If I get an intake system, it'll be that one.

If you click on the info section, they talk about filter comparisons. Interesting read.

I think Puulboy has either one of the production models or the prototype on his. You might want to ask him about the difference between the stock, oiled and it.

you want a new filter or a new air intake? If a different filter for the stock intake I would recommend the Amsoil EAA238 which is high flow and very good...it is dry filter so no need to oil and fits in stock airbox.

If converting over to a high flow airbox...I prefer the Volant but have been told they are redesigning the model for the FJ and it should be out shortly. They used to use the ProGuard 7 filters which are also very good.

If your running the stock filter box, there are only 3 current dry options :

1- Stock
2- AFE Pro Dry S filter 31-10114
3- Amsoil EAA238

I picked a K&N from Performance Products for $30 plus s/h. Saved a ton of money on that. It normally goes for $60 from what I have seen. Anyway, just to make sure it see's lots of clean air I will be installing the Cyclone air prefilter.

Put the K&N in took about 5-10 minutes. I have noticed about a 1-2mpg increase both city/highway. It will do for now. Good luck. :bigthumb:
