Consumer Product Safety Commission notification.

Plastic Handle Fire Extinguishers

The recall involves 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, including some models that were previously recalled in March 2009 and in February 2015. The extinguishers were sold in red, white and silver, and are either ABC- or BC-rated. The model number is printed on the fire extinguisher label. For units produced in 2007 and beyond, the date of manufacture is a 10-digit date code printed on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom. Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format. Date codes for recalled models manufactured from January 2, 2012 through August 15, 2017 are 00212 through 22717. For units produced before 2007, a date code is not printed on the fire extinguisher.

Mine isn't in. Seems they would only be red and white that are affected according to the list...however the date code fits 02513

Dang, better send my 2 back as well. One in my bro's 4runner and one in my FJC.
Last time Kidde didn't require the recalled ones to be sent back, so mine went to a work buddy for target practice.

Interesting. Kidde mentions "white and silver" are also affected but it must depend on which model you have. Good to know yours isn't affected by the recall! And I hadn't seen a silver one before. It looks nice. :)

Got three of four replacements today. Most everything is now metal (handle and pin). They do want me to send back the old ones (they included instructions and a return label) but no penalties were mentioned if I don't. I will return them as I have no reason to keep recalled fire extinguishers, but my buddy won't have these for target practice.

Received my new pair today. The handles are metal and the pin looks stronger. Its packaging is different than the recalled ones but the fire extinguisher looks identical otherwise. The new mount is completely different but luckily the old mount still works so I didn't have to drill any new holes.

Nice! Getting the pins out quickly won't be a problem, mine kept falling out while I was looking at the new extinguishers. I still don't have a response from Kidde on whether I need to send the old ones back or not.
