Check with DominicG, he has the ARB rack with tent.

You have two options for a rack DESIGNED for use with a RTT.

ARB and BajaRack.

:: Baja Rack ::
ARB Air Locker Heavy Duty 4x4 Bumpers

I have the ARB, and i like it. I got to see the Bajarack in person this week and like it much more. I just can't find any pics of it.

BajaRack?

Like Scott's?

Yeah, they had one at the Summit that fit a RTT beautifully.
I have been looking at the Bajarack .. I like the looks and I really like the price !!
hey guys, thanks for the input, but the gentelmen from autohome told me the arb rack is not wide enough for the large overland tent, says the fj roof is a small roof compared to the land cruiser and larger vehicles so i guess i might have to look at the chaser or the horizion trailers that will hold the larger tents, but that might get expensive, so i'll have to keep looking for a larger flat rack without the sides. thanks icebox
At one time Lance had a Autohome Columbus mounted to his Gobi Rack on his FJ...it can be done...
yea!....THATS THE ONE, is that the large tent that sleeps four? i was told it won't fit on the arb touring rack because the rack is not wide enough, the lg tent is 71 inches wide, what do you think? thanks
Oh sorry guess I didn't understand what you were going for. The ARB Touring rack is designed for the folding RTTs....ARB, Camping Lab, Eezi Awn, etc. The large flat fiberglass Autohome tents should probably be mounted like Corey has his on the Yakima bars.

yes, i am talking about a folding rtt, but i need a larger tent for family of 4, the man i spoke to said he did not think the arb touring was wide enough for the large tent, but the pictures dominic showed, the tent was mounted on a jeep which can't be any bigger than the fj, does anyone know if the side rails on the arb touring rack are removable?

No they are not. But, wouldn't be to hard to cut them off.
O.K., I had the same issue and solved it. The Baja and ARB will not work with high end roof top tents. I have a Magiolina from Autohome, which is a different model than the overland. However, I found a company after a lot of reseach, that makes a flat roof rack that will work. Go to Sleeoffroad.com - Toyota SUV Off-Road Outfitters It's not cheap, but works excellent, also it has a much lower profile. I love mine, good luck!
PS. Be sure not to mount a roof top tent on the factory roof rack. I had Desert Rat insist install it this way after they insisted it was safe. I rolled my truck 3 weeks later. Now I have the Slee flat roof rack and Maggiolina Small, and it works great with the low profile.
I have been thinking about this too. I currently have the ARB roof rack, the regular version. I don't understand why you can't put the RTT perpendicular to the rails, so the tent opens to the side of the vehicle. The top rails are 44" wide and 84" long, that would be enough to open, even the 4 person tent. Just a thought. I hope that makes sense.......

I have had mine as well as a few other forum members have theirs mounted to the factory rack, and it is fine.

In a strong wind on the freeway you can feel it though.

Mine has been mounted this way since March when I got it.
I would be interested in getting it mounted lower though.
When I move in the future, it is coming off the roof altogether and going on an off road trailer.

Which rack did you get from Slee?
I only see the ARB ones on their site.

I didn't know that the FJ could support that kind of weight. Can the ARB RTT be mounted to a stock roof rack?
I am in the market for a roof top tent and roof rack and am interested in what seems to be working the best for other FJ owners. The lower profile racks are the most appealing, as there is not a lot of extra room getting into the garage. Ideally, I'd like a tent that sleeps four.

FJChandler you stated that our rack will not work with the hard tents, is this due to the front "basket area"? If so would the market be interested in a totally flat rack? We can easily make them, anyone intersted? Cris
