My Foobar

As everyone knows, an FJ is always a work in progress, so I thought I start my buildup thread and add things as I went along.

Some History. I've loved the FJ since I saw my first '07. I remember seeing it and wondering what the heck it was. I did some research and started planning to get one. At the time, I had an Acura which was alot of fun and was paid for, so buying one right off was just not in the cards. So after three years, I finally decided to pull the trigger and purchase a 2010 black 5AT with the offroad package. The dealer ordered it for someone but they never came and got it. So it just happened to be on the lot.

Modding the machine: The very first mod was adding a second horn to the FJ. I know it sound silly but it was the first mod thread I read on here and was so anxious to do something to it, I just did it. After that was adding a Midland CB setup with a Firestik 4' antenna. Next was adding a flexible map reading light and GPS to the dash.

I then started looking at storage systems for the rear door. Decided to build my own system based off some input from here. I use to work at a bicycle shop and decided I could easily make a system for mounting cycling panniers to the back door. It was easy to do and worked perfectly. I need to take a pic of the system and add it to the thread.

I have cut out the original muffler and added a Magnaflow 5X8X30 with a custom high tuck pipe. I really like the sound and the perfomance is rather nice. Seems it really smooths out the low end power.

After going round and round, I finally pulled the trigger on a Toytec lift. I went with the 3" adjustable coilovers for my Bilsteins, with TT Superflex rear coils and OME Sport rear shocks. I also installed the Light Racing UCA's and followed some tips here with the alignment to get no rub. I was able to land some nice Procomp Alloy wheels with Interco 34X10.5X16 TSL's off craigslist.

Here are some pics I took of the rig outside at work after the lift was installed and before the blackout.

Thanks for the nice comments. And those tires are nasty loud!! I\'m going to D2D with my stock rugged trails and use these in the mud with I go offroad.

As for the images, I uploaded the images to a local forum that I run where I have admin rights to upload high res files. Then I just use the image link from that forum when posting. The pics are from my phone which will actually take a 5mp image.

Took a few pics this morning of my rear door storage system and my Demolo Light Sliders.

Here are a few pics of the light I mounted in the cab for a map light and my Midland mount. There is something so special about Velcro. :)

This weekend my son and I did some cosmetic work on the FJ. After tearing off one of the back side bumper pieces, we decided to paint all of them black. We did the rear bumper first, then today did the front grill, bumper and door handles.

We still have the side mirrors to do. My son wants to paint them to match the grill. I'm still up in the air about it. Any comments?

I think they would look great in white. youve probly seen others do it, I just like the way it matches the roof :bigthumb:

Also your truck looks sick, and in your signature it says you have OME long travel rear shocks? How much more travel does it give?? could you send me the link to where you bought them :p

I'm having trouble envisioning the handles and mirrors red/maroon, maybe someone can do a photoshop for you? Those tires are sick! I can see why you want some sound proofing when they are on there.
I don't know why I didn't think of doing a photoshop rendering, I'll try that. Thanks for waking me up. lol

I'm not sure about white. I beat them up alot on the trails here. I like being able to just rattle can them when I scuff them up.

The OME's I got from toytech along with their superflex coils. They said they give about 1.75" to 2" more travel over the stock bilsteins. What I've found out though is that the limits are probably more from the crappy joints Toyota uses in the rear control arm links. I'm switching out to a full set of links from Stan at the Toy Outfitters. Just gotta wait for them to come in. Once I get em in, I'll add it to the build thread. :)

Yeah, that sounds good. I want to get a set of links from toy oufitters as well.. Are you going to get the LCA weld on mount and chop off the stock one? I'm going to do that all at once because my LCA mounts are super bent and all I hear is squeaking now.

I thought about doing that but I'm going to just weld in some 1/4" plate on the sides of the stock and also make a long skid plate ramp for the front side of the mount.

The younger side of me says to go with red. The older side of me says to go with black. If you go with red paint the rear springs red. I miss seeing those aggessive tires. No matter what the FJ looks great! :bigthumb:

Thanks Bill! I have been thinking of painting the springs red anyway. :) I think we are going to do the mirrors black along with that spare tire cover.

BTW, this morning I went out to the FJ and found a nice 10" crack in the windshield. Guess I need to go change my vote on the windshield cracked poll. lol

Bummer with the windshield. If you haven't already check out the the post entitled "my first FJ problem" in the general discussion forum. Problem with the cowl post windshield replacement. :bigthumb:

Nice build, like the red. You should paint the Toyota emblem to match it though.:rocker:

So on our last trip to Superlift, we bent the crap out of both my rear LCA's. So I've got a set of rear upper and lower CA's on order from Stan at Toy Outfitters, but they won't be in for a week or so. So since I have a trip back to Superlift scheduled for this weekend, I needed to do something for the trip. So I went to my friends house and we welded in some .250" angle iron to the bottoms of the arms after we straightened them out with a sledge hammer. :) Those things are like cheese. Now I see why everyone replaces them. Anyway, they came out pretty nice for what we were doing. I'll take some pics of them tomorrow at work since we were fighting light and I couldn't really stop to take pics while we worked.

As for the mirrors, my son and I have decided to go black on them. I think we will be doing a black textured paint to sorta match the black pieces already on them. Won't be able to get it done until after the trip though. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Here is a quick video of probably where I bent at least one of them:

I really could have used a good spotter. :(
