I just purchased a new 2011 TRD FJ, and i was outside looking and trying out the four-wheel drive features. When i slowly shift to 4L i hear this grinding sound much like you hear from a manual trans. when you are not fully depressing thr clutch. But if i go ahead and put it into 4L fast it does not make the sound. So how do yall put your into 4L?

Read the manual. If you do I believe the word "quickly" shift is referenced.

Yeah the manual says "Securely" shift and thats what i thought just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong, i have a 91 toyota manual, and when i go into four low with it i have no prob. so just checking. Thanks for putting my mind at ease though.

You MUST be stopped to switch into 4lo. That noise you hear is your T-case gears grinding. To shift properly into 4lo, you must stop the truck, switch to neutral and then engage 4lo, then back into drive.

i am stopped in neutral, i was just shifting too slowly i guess if i do it quicker it goes in fine.
