There have been a fair amount of threads lately concerning auxilary lighting wiring. I figured that I would post up a basic wiring diagram.

The diagram below uses a standard SPST switch and a standard relay. I hope that this helps with some of the wiring questions many are asking about. I’ll work on some more complex wiring such as lighted switches soon.

i've done this a few times. this diagram that i drew up takes into consideration that you use the appropriate size fuse and relay to accomodate both lights. it also is configured so that the lights only work with the key is on, regardless of the switch position.

This was meant to be a BASIC wiring diagram for Aux Lights. Personally I too like to use a switched circuit to power the switch, but some people like to be able to use lights such as camp lights without having the key on.

The whole point here is a SIMPLE wiring diagram showing the basics. Personally I use power from a stand alone fuse block to supply power to the switch, but the idea was to show a basic wiring circuit that a beginer can understand.

I have done it a few times too.

I am preparing to wire in some rock lights and have been studying several different wiring threads for info on the best ways to accomplish this. I have all of my parts and info now except for where to mount my relays... i noticed in the stock relay/fuse box under the hood there appear to be several open relay slots, can i use these? any pictures of how and where to mount a relay would be greatly appreciated.

just wire tie it up somewhere out of the way, probably under teh dash so you only have to run one 12v wire out from under the dash (from the relay) to the lights.

I have four 55watt lights on my roof and would like to put 100watt bulbs in each. Does anyone know the formula for amps and wattage to tell me what size relays, fuses, and wire to run? Also would it be possible to run just one relay and switch for this setup?

Thanks

If the lights did not come with a harness you can wire it just like the diagram from scratch.

I am plannign on wiring up my acro lights in my rear demello bumper. Anyone have a suggestion on a wiring harness to buy ? I think the acro lights are 55watt?

You can use the trailer hitch wiring. It only runs though if your parking/headlights are also on. Oh, and you dont really need to use a remote control... just a simple wire feedthrough to the relay. http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/1221764-post30.html
