While at the dealership last week, I closely looked at the 2007 Tundra and noticed that the door handle looks the same as on our FJ.

Got me interested to do some experiment and order the black door handle covers (base model Tundra) from 1sttoyotaparts.com. The smaller cover with the keyhole came in but the door handle cover is on backorder.

Suprised to find out that they are the same.:)

Cover with key hole - $ 7.53/each - P/N 69217-0C010
Door handle cover - $ 12.59/each - P/N 69210-0C010

The door handle assemblies are installed. Will take more pictures and installation write up tomorrow.

The original door handle.

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

Front door handle removal and install:

1) Open the door and remove the black plastic plug on the door jamb.
2) Loosen the gold colored Torx fastener that is behind the plug, by using a #30 Torx bit. The Torx fastener will not come out completely, or fall into the door, because it has a retainer clip which holds it in place.
3) You should now be able the pull the lock mechanism out.
4) Carefully take a small flat screw driver and pry the plastic lock cover off.
5) Slide the front part of the handle back and out.
6) Insert the new door handle into the opening of the door, slide it forward, and into position.
7) Snap the new lock cover onto the lock mechanism.
8) Insert the lock mechanism into the door, and tighten the Torx fastener (not too tight).
9) Front door handle swap complete!

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

A visual installation of the Blacked Out Handle for those who need it (like myself) Added pictures to Sealevel's procedure.

1. Open Door, Identify Black Plasic plug on door jam and remove.

2. Loosen Torx fastener.

8) Insert the lock mechanism into the door, and tighten the Torx fastener

9) Front door handle swap complete!

Thanks NDA for such a great/simple mod!
