Hello guys, I have a 2009 FJ Cruiser and a few months ago, a little sound started to hear on what I know its called the Master Brake Cylinder, (please check Video 1) but no dashboard lights, no failure at all!! , good brakes, ABS still working, a-trac working, rear locking, everything workings nice.

I took my truck to the dealer to check what's going on, and they told me I have to chance the whole ABS/Break/traction control system (Master Brake Cylinder) at a cost of $2,000 dlls. Of course I did not agree because the also didn't know the exact problem, and by this I mean the did not know if the failure was on the ABS Pump and Motor Assembly $1000 (see diagram part 11) or the Brake master cylinder $1,000 use (see diagram part 3), so they recommended to change the whole system (see diagram part 1) for $2,000.

I drove my FJ for another 6 months with no failure at all, until last week that an alarm appeared on the dashboard with an annoying unstoppable sound that I guess it means take me to the dealer and change the damn thing! , and it's not a bell ringing or the classic alarm sound, this is disturbing (please see video 2). Everything is still working perfectly but I know something is very wrong other wise there will be no alarm sound.

I've been reading all the related posts about this failure, and a lot of different ways to fix it, from changing the ABS wheel sensor for $50 usd to the $2,000 solution. So the question is, if somebody know if the failure will be fixed by changing the ABS pump or the brake master cylinder. It's $1,000 usd difference between solutions.

I also read about changing the whole systems by a used one for a fraction of the cost ($500) but every part dealer I found told me it has to be the exact part number of my truck or it will not work properly, because it changes from year to year and between equip packages on the truck... does anyone know if this is true????

I fixed the annoying sound twice by erasing the alarm code with a ECU scanner, but it will be back.

Any comments, solutions or fixes are very welcome!!!!

Thank you all!!!

Nothing match to tell. But I can tell that the Sound in Video1 is about the system trying to level the pressure in the brakes system.

It is normal ever couple of times but yours is in every short time, definitely something wrong.

The failure maybe in the parts that responses of the pressure.

Is there any code error!

I know also, If any bad speed sensor the ((ABS)) will alarm.

Check the all details about the Brake System in the two PDF below: a lot of details:

What codes are appearing in the system that you are erasing? It sounds like the pressure pump is running abnormally in the second video. The codes may be the indicator of he problem.

Wow, that's a lot of information!!

I also have some error codes :

C1252 : Hydro-booster pump malfunction
C1256 Accumulator Low pressure

I think the 1256 is a consequence of the pump malfunction.

It appears to be a lot of possible causes to this particular problem. Let me read about it and I'll tell you how was it!!!!

Best regards!!

I already change the whole thing, it cost me $1,600 usd. I took my truck to my dealer and they installed the brake booster and programed it which eliminates all the previous error codes and my truck went back to normal as expected after paying that ridiculous amount of money..... But the thing here is that the accumulator pump still working a lot, and I mean a lot, (in a silent and quiet way but a lot for short periods of time ) My concern is that if the pump still operates a lot, it eventually will break it, like the last time. Any suggestions what could be???

Drives me nuts when useful threads about the brake booster system get left dangling with no final solution.
You and me both. I need to replace the ABS ECU on my FJ and there are no threads about it HAHA
