Hi all!

New to the forum and a new FJ owner...

I have the 2015 TRD spec (GCC) and it has the iPod lead in the glovebox, touchscreen & BT Controller for calls in the middle console

I love the car but the radio is the most backwards stupid lazy ass design I have ever seen. First off the iPod lead is the old 30 pin... seriously? that went out 3-4 years ago

2nd If you use the nav onboard then you cant have any audio source apart from that

I could go on but safe to say I want to change it!

So question here is what head unit can I use BUT still use the middle BT controller? I have changed many units in old cars and I know how to remove it but just want a compatible unit that works wit the controller. Ideally a double-din Pioneer unit with USB/iPhone etc

Thanks!

I always start at Crutchfield
They will give u a good idea of whats out there.
They have decent prices. Considering they include extra install gear
With a purchase

Either way its a good place to look around and see what fits ur needs

Btw. Most new car radios. Have bt. Built in. So don't worry to much about stok equipment. Except ur stering wheel controls. If u have them.

Zoso... will chime in here im sure. And is the resadent go to. For stereo advice. Great guy. To have here.

Hi, I just installed a pioneer AppRadio 4 three days ago. Dont worry about the bluetooth, most head unit come with bluetooth

If you want to keep the control unit on the steering wheel. Here is what I bought.
http://www.amazon.com/Axxess-ASWC-1...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
and
http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-8114...tra 70-8114&qid=1462755119&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
The first link is the control module, and the second link will connect this module to your car and head unit.

You will also need Metra 70-1761 to connect your head unit to your car.

http://www.amazon.com/Metra-AX-TOYU...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 will retain the OE usb under cigar lighter.

The only stock equipment won't work is the microphone on your rearview mirror(if you have that). you will have to run a microphone come with the head unit.

any decent head-unit will have BT (comes with a mic) and Steering Wheel controls , the better brands are Alpine ,Pioneer and Kenwood ..I assume you don't want to spend a fortune on one with NAV and all? example

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-X...462887708&sr=1-13&keywords=pioneer+car+stereo

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...s=pioneer+car+stereo&sprefix=pioneer+,aps,169

Alpine

Amazon.com: Alpine CDE-W265BT Double DIN Bluetooth In-Dash CD/AM/FM Receiver w/ App Direct Mode: Automotive

metra steering wheel control

http://www.amazon.com/Axxess-ASWC-1...xgy_107_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1BWEZBR1W8Z8KCPHZYC7

all way better than stock and gives you a great headunit that you can built a system with in the future if wanted
