So, right after I come to a complete stop I get like a two second delay and then a slight surge forward followed by a mild clunking noise. I'm thinking tranny or rear diff? It only does it periodically and naturally wouldn't do it for the dealership. I've also noticed my milage had dropped by at least a couple mpgs around town and am assuming it's all part of the same issue. Any guesses?

Think of the yoke as a pipe with internal, longitudinal grooves that has one end sealed off, the sliding part as a sealed pipe with external, longitudinal grooves. When the sliding part moves INWARD (as when the rear wheels move upward), it must displace excess grease. If you fill that end of the yoke with too much grease and hit a nasty bump in the road forcing the the splined shaft into the yoke even further, the only place the grease can go is out along the splines. It will blow out with much force. If you put way too much grease in, it can cause a momentary hydrolock situation in the slip yoke.

I hope that makes sense.

What RoverGGM 'said'. My bet is on the slip yoke based on your description. Grease the rear and see if the situation gets better for a while. If you have a grease gun, you can do the rear slip yoke in about 3 minutes without lifting the FJ. It's normal.

Thanks RoverGGM! I can't believe all these FJs out there experiencing the same issue and the dealership knows nothing about it. Nice to know that I'm not alone and once again affirms that this Forum Rocks!!! Next trip into the dealership I'll have them grease the yolks and we'll see if that helps, but either way it sounds like I can cross it off my "worry" list...Thanks again!

Welcome to the club.. It's not in the best interest of the dealers to "know" about problems. Better for them to "not know" have therefore have to investigate.. Ron
