What about the GE Nighthawk? I hear they are supposedly in the Silverstar category. Very eager to see the results.

Have a link? Seems like a worthy addition...

That is the correct rating for HI/LO beam for the stock headlight.
Thanks!

Just bought Silverstars, but they didn't carry Ultra's yet. Will try another shop tomorrow. Also bought the GE nighthawks, will update the original post. Hopefully this will become a one stop headlight thread with all the part numbers and some good comparison photos.

Koito Whitebeam H4 [K10000-H4] - $29.99 : Car Lighting Xenon Halogen headlight upgrade bulbs HID
Here is a great site for bulbs and info.

Hella H4 / 9003 / HB2 Replacement and Upgrade Bulbs

I e-mailed them to see if the High Output Osram Hyper Bulbs are the same as the Sylvania Ultra bulbs. No answer yet. I just installed the Sylvania Ultras in my truck today but I haven't had the chance to check them out at night.
great thread
Thanks! You will all see alot of 5 min used bulbs in the parts section soon. I have enough headlight bulbs for 5 FJ's right now and still acquiring them!

I agree, great thread.

In the past I wrote up a thread on another forum doing this exact same thing. I wish I still had all my info. Testing this visually or with a consumer camera is a great start. To do this truly scientifically you will need a monochrome Grade 0 CCD sensor and a ND128 filter. Mount the CCD on a tripod and in the direct beam path of the headlight and start swapping bulbs and taking "pictures" and the same exposure for each bulb. (so long as you don't saturate the chip) Take these images into an image analysis software such as ImageJ and measure the intensities with a ROI tool or line profile. et viola! QUANTITATIVE DATA!

The camera I used to do this was a CoolSNAP Hq2 (~$16K) and the software I used was ImageJ, which is free.

All I remember is the PIAA Xtreme white had the highest intensity independant of color temperature. (remember is a true monochrome CCD)

You will LOVE the Silverstar Ultras, I just put them in and now I get flashed all the time. But damn they are at least 3x brighter than the stocks! They sure as hell light up the night, I almost have no need for brushguard lights now.

Joel, you rock (except in your theory about astrophysics! ha!) In case you can't try it in the northwest, I bought a pair of HID's from one of our site vendors (xenonlink) and they are amazing! You have to aim your lights down a little to avoid blinding others, but the improvement is unbelievable (35 watt low beam HIDs that have 55 Watt high beams). You just do not need high beams anymore with these! Hope this helps.
