Actually, if you flip the mirrors from side to side then rotate them down 90* they would work perfectly. Thinking about exploring the possibility of fabbing inner mounting arms with 90* bends that would allow this mod. It would need a small bellows to conceal the new bent mounting arm but is probably doable and would maintain the factory look and even the silly running lights in the upper/outer positions.
Guess I have too much time on my hands during my commute ;~)
Was there ever any traction on this idea?

It is interesting that the thread rambled on for so many pages and no one ever got around to simply adding heating mirrors on their own. These trucks thrive in the "make it your own / DIY" realm.

There are several threads on here where folks have shown how it is done, and even provided the Japanese part numbers for the factory heated and convex mirrors from the JPN market where they were always available:

https://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/how-technical-articles/40856-heated-mirrors-mod-inst.html

Also, there are locally available "heater pads", but I don't see the appeal of going that route, over getting the JPN glass assemblies, since the aftermarket ones are only approximate match and don't include the convex curvature which eliminates any blind spot.

This was the very first mod I did when I got mine home (that, and pulling out the buzzer from behind the instrument cluster).

I replaced the standard mirror inserts with wide angle view that Toyota makes for the middle east FJC and also replaced the bulb with LED, works out well with far improved visibility.

The only issue I have with the mirrors is every time I go of road through trees the branches slap the mirrors and then the glass can get knocked out. Happens in automated carwashes too. I have to pull them in in both cases. I also now carry spare mirrors for when they get knocked out and break. as far as heated mirrors I grew up when there was no such thing. You can get additives to coat the glass to keep ice from forming. and antifog also.
