Do I need to order the Canbus Harness for my 2008?

So I will be installing a Teyes CC3 2K this week in my 08 base model which had no steering wheel controls Non JBL Head Unit. I have ordered the steering wheel controls and will be doing the horn pad cuts to install them but I am stiill unclear if I will be needing the optional Canbus harness you can buy from Teyes. From what I saw in the old threads of the wheel controls installation they just installed the controls and the functions worked on the factory head unit. So I would assume the Teyes will be recieiving signal from the controls without need of the canbus adapter. I will just need to map the controls in the Teyes to assign the buttons to their duties right?

My '07 does not use canbus, my '11 does;
both are running Android H/U w/ OEM steering wheel controls & JBL system.
IFAIK, the canbus is used on later ('10 & up) FJs
My '07 uses 3 harnesses to connect to OEM side, one of which is the steering wheel button control
My '11 only uses 2 and a canbus box.
I'm assuming you have the needed internals for the steering wheel side of the install(?)
HTH!

All I ordered is the controls, is there something else I am missing?
ibleedspeed1978,
I am not sure ... have you read this link?
(there are several posts, as well search "steering wheel controls)
Not trying to freak you out, just wanted give you a heads-up as a caveat.
🙂 👍

Yes I have read all the threads multiple times, From what I can see it looks like my 2008 should just be plug and play with the wheel controls but if it's not for some reason I will certainly report back.

My 08 does not use Canbus. The steering wheel controls are just resistive switches. Three wires carry the various signals. My Android head unit had connections for them, but they were in the wrong mating harness locations so had to move a couple pins around on the head unit side of the harness connector to get them to work.

Interesting... Can you elaborate on how you swapped the pins around? I know on the Teyes head unit you program which button does what so I'm not sure it matters as long as the head unit is receiving the signal from the controls. It looks like I probably wont have the wiring for the right side bluetooth controls which is fine, I can live without those.
Side Note: you can buy the whole new steering wheel for the 2008 with Left Side Stereo Controls (No Right Side Bluetooth) for about $260 Shipped... Considering I paid $100 to get the stereo controls with a right side that I wont need or be able to use without further mods this doesn't seem like a bad price to get a whole new steering wheel with the left controls I need and a blank on the right. However I already ordered a leather wrap to cover my old dinged up wheel now so I am leaning towards sticking with what I already ordered. But for any future readers to consider, the part number is 45100-35460-B0

I don’t remember exactly what I had to do and I doubt it would be applicable to your situation anyway. Best to plug everything in and see if it works first and then go from there.

If you have issues like I did, you’ll need to know what wires the head unit is using for the steering wheel signals. Then look at swapping those pins in the connector so they mate up with the Toyota harness. If you get to that point I think I have a wiring diagram for the Toyota side of the harness that will help you ID the right wires on the Toyota side.

Canbus didn't start on the stereos until the 2010 model year if I recall (whatever year they swapped from the FJammer to the JBL as the premium option), so you're definitely in the clear.
Would a 2010 with this same head unit and no steering wheel controls use canbus?
