UPS has worked hard to limit left turns in their routes. It has resulted in significant gas savings. Trucks idling on left turn signals burn a lot of fuel. If we take the same tip, maybe we'll save a buck or two every fill up.

Just what I was gonna say - I've added 10 more miles to my route to avoid left turns, so it's a wash... :)

I have a gas saving tip "Just Don't F*cking drive". Stay home and watch porn all day, you will save gas and have a really big right arm, unless you are left handed then you will have a really big left arm.

Just kiddin' I see what they are saying.

It's all about switching arms... and trying to use different muscle groups. Maybe a wrist action one week, followed by some elbow-bending tricep/bicep work, maybe another week for the deltoids... advanced users can try to work their lats, traps, and calves in the process as well.

It works for UPS because they stop at so many locations. If I had 20 stops to make in a sq. mile grid and used a spiral of some sort to get it done, I could pretty much use all right turns. It doesn't work for me, but it is a help for those that can pull it off without adding mileage.

By the way, UPS has not worked all that hard to figure this out. They are too good at that kind of stuff for it to require any real effort. It would blow your mind if you could see the logistics those guys manage daily.

Or you could just get your girlfriend to do it.:rofl::rofl:

:bigthumb:This is such a trivial amount of fuel saved and ONLY works for people that drive routes with many many many normal stops.

A much better way IMO is to pay attention to traffic lights and their timing. Know when to do a quick burst of speed so you will approach the left turn right when it is in its green, or just before, state. Or know when to go slower to also catch that green light.

The problem with the right turn to avoid left turns as a means of saving gas anywhere other than California is that you can not make a right hand turn on a red light, thus you're still sitting, idle, at a light if you don't catch it in time in addition to the extra mileage you are putting on your vehicle by making all those silly turns. Also, there are not right lane must turn right lanes at all intersections so you get that guy (me) who is holding up right lane turn traffic because they are going to go straight and they have to wait for the green. This potentially puts you at waiting for two lights instead of one. it could in fact double the time you spend idling at lights.

OK, let the rebuttle's fly! :) :rocker:

My wife use to work at UPS and thats what she use to do. They've even calculated steps and movements. They've gotten it down to a science.

Laugh guys. There are ways to try and limit your left turns. Instead of making 2 lefts to get to a place, you can take a earlier left and make a right instead. It doesn't mean you don't make any left turns, just try and limit them-within reasons obviously. [email protected] :cowfrown:

Guys, let keep this about the gas saving tips, not a person's "private" activities. OK...
