How do drilled or slotted or drilled & slotted rotors perform off-road where dust, mud, and water are present? I got my front rotors turned, which was a mistake, as now I have pulsing in the brake pedal. I've got the TRD front pads so I'm not looking for pads at this time, but do need new rotors.

We normally do not recommend drilled rotors due to the fact that as we drive thru water which can lead to cracking and lots of debris can get logged in the holes.

EBC design is unique as their rotors are dimpled, but not drilled. This provides much more strength.

Slotted and/or dimpled rotors are recommended. In our experience, the slots help sand and other debris to exit more easily. They also keep the pad wear very even to the face of the rotor and help prevent pad buildup which leads to rotor "warping" or pedal pulsation that some have experienced. There also seems to be much more initial bite on the brakes with slotted rotors. They do cut down on pad life a bit, but when combine with aftermarket high-performance pads, the lifetime ends up being similar. Slotted rotors will cause slightly more dust, its a worthwhile tradeoff in our testing.

I'm going to change my rear brakes and rotors in the next couple of weeks. What kit would you recommend with for a 2010 Fj with a 3" lift and 33" tires with front and rear steel bumpers.

Thank you for your help

Read some reviews online that the EBC slotted rotors make a lot of wind noise on the road. Anyone have experience with this on FJs?

I would do a stage 5 from EBC with those larger tires. The yellow pads are really the best way to go:rocker:

I am interested on a set of ebc sports but some reviews say they stop the fj's quick but make noise , are these that noisy ? I like they are slotted and dimpled but I also like my ride quite.

Sometimes when you hit the brakes at a mid-level speed quickly, they can make a whooshing noise as air escapes out the slots. I only notice it on my truck when the windows are down and I am driving next to a wall.

The USR semi-slotted rotors are designed to be a little quieter.

Oh ok, 90% of the time i drive with windows up , what i am concerned is regular driving stop and go brake noise, i know my stock ones don't make noise which i like but stop very poorly this i don't like . Questions , Is the ultimax brake rotor the same as the USR or is this a new design/ name that replaces the ultimax rotor? I understand that the USR is the quite performer out of the two, but is the braking distance the same between these two ( USR vs sport) or is the sport dimpled and slotted better performer ?

I'm pretty much trying to decide which is best for me , i like a quite ride but with a rotor that performs the best and im having a feeling that im gonna have make a sacrifice.

You might be referring to the brake pads them selves making noise. The Greenstuff 6000 & 7000 pads are quiet, the yellowstuff can make some squeaking noise when cold and not under full braking pressure. If bedded and broke in properly, this doesnt normally happen. I run HAWK SD pads which are like the yellowstuff aka metallic and grippy and they do make a slight noise under 5mph under light braking but not at any other time.

USR = Ultimax Sport Rotor. While most use the term interchangeably, there is a non-slotted plain ultimax rotor that EBC makes. The 3GD are the slotted & dimpled rotor. They work great and are both high quality rotors. I find there is slightly more initial bite with USR, as there is more surface area of the rotor to clamp onto without the dimples. Dimples arent needed on a low speed, non-race truck although we highly recommend slotted rotors to help clear debris and keep pad wear even on the rotor face.
