I'm using some for instrument illumination in my FJ40 and it works great; very even non-glaring light. The picture does not do it it justice, it is way brighter than my point & shoot camera can capture. Works with the rheostat too.
I prefer in it flat ribbons... easier to mount. Bought 50' spool back in the day as it worked pretty good. nice accent light but the "cut and splice" thing does take some patience as the wires are really thing. no fun also that everything has to hook up to an inverter. Now, its LEDs all the way... doesnt have the uniform glow but much easier to work with and they dont eak trace amounts of el goop.
I think you will need an inverter to make it work.... you can tap into a fused power point, like the drivers side kick panel. Plenty of empty slots to get power.
Or get a kit with a cigarette socket.
These run on AC power so you need to invert your power source.
Many kits are available which include an inverter - saves the hassles of batteries.
Just do an Ebay search.... for kits with inverters...
